C Catholic2003 Guest Feb 13, 2005 #4 It was an impediment in the old 1917 Code of Canon Law, but it is no longer an impediment in the new 1983 Code of Canon Law (Latin Rite). I believe it is still an impediment for Eastern Catholics.
