Godparents/Witness

Hey Everyone,
Code: 
           I Have chosen a Non-Catholic friend of mine to be a Godparent/Witness to my daughters Baptism. He has asked me if there was a link or info on the role of what he is asked to do,he was honored that we asked, but I think he just wants the order of things and what they mean, so he has an idea of the things going on around him. Also,  these will be private baptisms (twins) can anyone provide a link that shows the order of the Catholic Mass and just how biblical it is.

Usually a private Baptism does not take place within a Mass. The Rite of Infant Baptism is what you are looking for. You can ask your pastor for a copy and he will be happy to loan one to you. A non-Catholic should not be refered to as a Godparent. Only a the Catholic is the actual Godparent.

                 Yes I am aware that a private Baptism does not take place within a Mass. I think what he is looking for is a play by play so to speak.(The Priest says this and you say that and you light the candle type of information is what he is looking for). I was asking about a link for the Mass showing how scriptural it is because he finds it interesting and he has never been to a Mass but he would like to attend with My family and I sometime.

Not looking to start anything here, but why would a non-Catholic, so completely unfamiliar with the basics of the Catholic faith, be chosen as a witness, especially when he hs being looked upon as a godfather? :confused:

So you have a christian witness but do you have an actual Catholic Godparent?

Well 3 0f the 4 godparents/witnesses are Catholic, and the reason we chose him is because he might be the strongest Christian in the Church that day.

There is no “private” Baptism in the Catholic Church. The idea itself is an oxymoron. A baptism may end up being celebrated in a front of a limited number of people but by its definition it is a public event.
 
I believe you were asking for the “Order of the Mass” for your friend because he has never attended a mass??? Am I correct? If so, please look at the following website, and I believe you can obtain all the information you need. It is a great site. I’m proud for your twins. The God parent answers on behalf of the child. The questions asked are based on the Catholic faith. When asked Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty … in the Catholic Church, the person on behalf of the child has to answer “YES” and how can he say Yes when he is not a Catholic? If he sincerely believes in the Catholic Church, what stops him from being a Catholic before becoming a God parent?

A non-Catholic can be a Christian witness to the baptism but CANNOT be a Godparent/Sponsor. It is prohibited by Canon Law.

He will not be asked to do anythinng because he is not a Sponsor.

Only the actual Sponsors should present the child and make the baptismal promises.

Please talk to your priest and discuss the reason that only a Catholic can be a Sponsor.
