Gods calling...What did he call you for?

I think I have an answer as far as what God is calling me to do career wise. Part of me hates the answer but another part of me sees the pure genius behind it. Everything about it seems to fit together like a puzzle with regards to where I have come from…What I’m doing now…and where I’m heading.

Here’s a quick look at why God wants me to be a pizza cook or specifically in a pizza related field.
  1. As entry level work in its purest form the pizza industry is riddled with drugs and kind of broken people that come from shattered backgrounds. I wasn’t exactly an addict but I’ve definitely indulged once or twice …IF you know what I mean 😉 Its familiar to me, and I speak the language of the people in it.
  2. Its all I’ve done for the last decade of my life…AND I’ve become quite good at it. I can stretch a pizza so large in such a comical manner kids love watching me at work.
  3. I’m in a unique position. As a Felon who had had his charge dismissed…I can actually pass a civil background check! However I would never pass an actual livescan. Trust me on this I wouldn’t even hire myself if I was reviewing my fingerprint record the FBI has.
  4. I’m extremely well adjusted to dealing with social politics. An absolute must when you have 22 employees to manage as I do now as a General Manager. And as much as I hate the stress…I find I handle it better than most once we are immersed up to our necks in tension and chaos.
  5. And last I can actually make a decent living doing this. I can make 50k a year and that number can go much higher if I really want to be brave and become a district manager running multiple stores. OR even open up my own store
Part of me hates the answer, but it’s where I’m stuck and for some reason God has given it the green light. Not to mention I can’t imagine another career. Unless that career is chewing tobacco and playing guitar, video games or reading in my underpants.

undertakers
pizza industry.

I think of you enjoy it and can make a good living, then why not?! Sometimes people get too wrapped up in the appearance of a title that they don’t realize how fulfilling supposedly “unglamorous” jobs can be. And never let a person’s education or lack there of fool you. Smart people do all kinds of work and don’t always have a degree. This last part I’m just adding in as its one of my pet peeves about people putting others down.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with your career choice. 🙂

We love pizza. It’s one of our favorite foods.

If you can make a great pizza, I think that it’s a talent. I think that it really is a talent to be able to cook well.

Pizza is one of the joys of life … nothing wrong with someone who can make a great pizza and can also make a decent living at it … sounds like you are on the way to making a better life for yourself … may God Bless you.
 
Some people have anticipated the future by giving up earthly work or career for laboring in the Church. Most professions in science, medicine, technology, etc. seek to improve the lives and condition but once we get to Heaven, maybe for a limited time in Purgatory, there will not be any need for them. The purpose of work is to interact with others, to gain wealth needed to build a family and to perfect ourselves.

At the same time, there is a feeling of wanting to rebel against a place where all we seem to do is bring connivances on each other, fill our bellies and etch out a territory among the plants and animals. Save for the Angelus, and sacred rituals. [When one is removed from the holy Apostolic Church, they have to look beyond themselves to find the ultimate meaning- one has to look within Tradition to incorporate in their life].

Maybe it is possible to dedicate oneself to a religious apostolate and build a career and a family altogether. You are looking at a threefold calling then, whereas a purely religious called to the priesthood or consecrated life is undivided in his mission and unencumbered in service to the Lord. Regardless, we should be like Nathanael, a man without duplicity as Jesus recognizes in John 1:47.
