if God is One, then there is nothing outside of God. To apply gender, limbs, or any other physical attribute in any way that is not symbolic, allegoriacl or metaphorical is, I think, an attempt to limit God to the physical and a form of idolatry.

As for the Renaissance paintings, I have a picture of 5 dogs playing poker in my basement, but that doesn’t mean my collie knows when to hold 'em, and knows when to fold 'em.
