God's love and Satans evils

Dear Ozzie Sister,

You are leaving two things out of the equation: God’s love for us, and what the Church calls “invincible ignorance.”

God’s love for us: Jesus allowed himself to be tortured and crucified for us. “Greater love hath no man than this.”

Essentially, God wants us to love him back. But He has also allowed some people, who would otherwise ignore Him, to be saved by their fear of hell.

He IS a loving God. He’s not some old man with white hair sitting in some cheesy postcard view of heaven, saying “Obey my rules or you don’t get in! Ha ha haa!”

All the commandments boil down to this: Love God, and love your neighbor.

"One of the scribes, when he came forward and heard them disputing and saw how well he had answered them, asked him, “Which is the first of all the commandments?”

Jesus replied, "The first is this: ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’

The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

There is no other commandment greater than these."Mark 12:28-31 (NAB)

God wants us to live in a loving world, sharing His and our love with everyone.

Search for His love! Don’t let depression blind you to it!

Try this: Go for a walk in some nice place, and look for small, lovely things, like flowers, or butterflies, or a little creek.

Every time you see one, that’s a love note from God. Take them personally.

There is a choice! You can look for all of God’s corrective measures. You can look for all His love notes. Personally, I think somewhere in the middle is the best place to be.
 
But doesn’t it go further, isn’t evey desire of our heart evil? Meaning every thought that isn’t in direct reference to God or to do with good works evil. All recreation, all hobbies, all interests are vain and evil. The only way we can be good is by being empty vacuouse shells for God to work through with no thoughts or personalities of our own. Life after death, heaven - a form of oblivion for us, ‘we’ do not exist any more since our individuality was based completely on sin.

and our thoughts which are directed to God are good. these thoughts are ours, they flow from us. our nature has good in it too. He created us, and we have His image. it came from Him, and it is ours.

I do believe that god is all-loving its just a question i’ve always had and a question that a lot of people ask.

I try not to worry about questioning God’s will. He is all knowing and completely just so with whatever He does, I’m in no position to question it. Our main focus should be how to get to heaven. We shouldn’t get caught up in asking why God does what He does. Some things we just will not understand in this world.

Marty If someone was to ask me the question I just asked all of you and responded like that they would consider it a side step or an “excuse” a lot of people today want answers I can completely understand your view and God can get so complicated sometimes that I don’t bother.

People today want scientific or detailed answers not exuses.
And I think this is a good question, and I am just curious please don’t get upset with me asking this.

Im not just concerned about my eternal salvation, I know a lot of lost souls that I care about that I’d hate the fate of hell for them.
These people get upset on the topic of hell and think “geez just because I don’t like the guy! why should I burn in hell for that?”

This is an heresy. (I forget the name of this particular heresy.) It is founded in the belief that all material things are evil. Thus we must have been created by an evil god, and the good God came along later to save us.

Well, I feel neither empty nor vacuous; nor do I lack personality; and if the Lord chooses to use me as His tool, I am deeply honored! :love:

not only do they confuse loving with liking, they make God out to be just some guy ( i assume that God’s the one being referred to here as “the guy”?)

nobody’s going to hell for not liking someone. tha’s not what He said. Jesus was talking about Love.

i don’t like ozzie’s music. never was a fan, but now i think his music’s really gone too mellow (while apparently not changing in other things). i don’t particularly like the guy either. am i going to hell for it? no.

what Jesus said was that we should love people. Love is an act. it is most certainly not a feeling. you can have feelings when you love someone, but love itself is* not* a feeling. to love someone goes beyond preferences, personal tastes, and sometimes even emotional involvement. doing what we can and must do to help bring people closer to Him, whether we like them or not–that’s love. and then–in my experience, at least–it opens up the channels to allow affection (and other warm fuzzy feelings) to flow from us. i think it was Bishop Sheen who said, “it was when i loved someone that i discovered i like him.” (i don’t have much skills when it comes to quotes, and i probably ruined this one too.😦 )

as to just not liking God (or just liking Him, for that matter)…is there such a thing? :confused: i’m afraid i’m not up to answer this one.

why should i even bother about the devil if i don’t believe in God? if there is no God, then who is this devil who says he is the enemy of this non-existent God?

i can’t see the point of being a good person if i think there is no God. why follow the straight and narrow path if it leads to nothing in the end? why should anyone be a “good person” if there is no God?

I know many people who are atheists and still they’re beautiful and caring & full of love.So I think God always finds a way to reach people,even those who claim they don’t believe in Him. 👍 :o
 
Good questions.

We are handicapped in our understanding of God in that we are limited to the confines of mere human reasoning. Our minds are not capable of fully understanding all of the motivations of our Lord. If they were, then I suspect we wouldn’t be spending our time in discussion rooms like this. In our view, a lot of things would have been so much easier if God had created things differently. The closest thing I can liken it to is trying to explain the rules of the road to a two year-old. That child’s mind just isn’t capable of grasping at that stage your more mature logic and reasoning as to why he shouldn’t put an earthworm in his mouth. So compared to God’s wisdom, even our most brilliant minds are likely no further along than that two-year old.

I know that really doesn’t answer your questions directly. There are some things that remain mysteries. Perhaps this is oversimplified, but if we didn’t know what evil was, how could we recognize good? Maybe that’s why God created Lucifer and allowed him to fall. We really don’t know and probably never will.

What we do know is that God so loved the world that he gave us his only son, Jesus. What we do know is that our reason for existence can be boiled down to the simple reality that God loves us.
