I don’t want to speak for Ed, but I believe he was referring anti-heroes being bad for kids.

I would agree with Ed, kids should not be idealizing anti-hero characters like Deadpool or the Suicide Squad.

Hollywood is in love with the anti-hero right now
That’s all I’m saying. Take Gotham. A young Commissioner Gordon makes a deal with the Peguin that a ‘good’ character would never make, but it was the “end justifies the means.” In Arrow, our hero makes a deal with a really bad guy so he can become Ra’s al Ghul, because, and this is me talking": You have to make a deal with a guy a few notches above the devil to get a good thing accomplished."

I wouldn’t want my kids watching that.

Heroes should have a few flaws but not work with evil. Heroes, in true heroic fashion, are a cut above. They are people but they should embody the best that people can be. I grew up with heroes that got through tough spots, and overcame. They gave hope.

Suicide Squad? No, definitely out.

I didn’t ignore Robyn. I mostly agree with her. However, my point in that last email is that Hollywood is promoting PG-13 movies (and indirectly R rated movies) to kids.

Start Wars, Marvel, and Batman vs Superman are good examples. Lots of kids merchandise, but the movies are PG-13.

And Batman vs Superman is a good example of an anti-hero movie targeted towards kids. And I would bet that Sucide Squad will be promoted towards kids too with toys, etc.
V for Vendetta was an anti-hero movie that was not targeted towards kids.

Yes, Suicide Squad will have toys for kids, like Harley Quinn’s Good Night Bat, which is a weapon, not a joke.

More R is coming. After all, Deadpool made money so it’s OK. From a trusted industry source:

“So it is no surprise to learn, in the wake of Deadpool’s record-setting debut, that not only is an R-rated Deadpool sequel in the works, but also that Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine film (also from Fox) will have an “R” rating, and that Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be available in an extended Ultimate Edition on Blu-ray that will, unlike previous extended cuts that went out as “Unrated,” carry an “R” rating.”

I’m glad God’s still around 🙂

yes, or at they are simply less apologetic about their immorality
No, the march to show more immorality continues. And yes, the media wants us to let go of any guilt we might feel. They like the path they’re on.

Ed,
I think you misunderstood me. I agree with you. I was simply implying that Hollywood is either more immoral today, or they were just as immoral 10 years ago, but are more public about it today than they were back then.

Either way, actors (as a group, not necessarily as individuals) have a long history of being more immoral than the mainstream population.

I’m not exactly sure why, but this has gone on for centuries.

I look at movies from 10, 20 and 30 years ago, and older. Whatever actors did on their own time rarely concerned me. If they spoke about or did good things 40 years ago, I’d be more inclined to believe them.

And the level of real scandal has turned into: “What scandal?” The current black is white, up is down thinking does not reach me. It doesn’t change my actions. Hollywood has been a worse influence starting in the late 1960s. Sure, there was gossip and rumors and a magazine called Confidential, which I would never buy or believe.

Some believe porn has gone “mainstream.” That’s how bad some people want more sex in movies.

Sex in the City pretty much pushed porn into the “mainstream”

Now almost all of those dramas on HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc are filled with porn. Cinemax is practically all porn at night.

In 1999, a college kid had to work very hard to find porn on TV. Today, you have to work hard to avoid porn. Sick.

In 1999 a college student, with the Internet, had to work very little to find porn. Heck in the mid 90’s it was pretty much out there easily. One can not find porn easily in this day and age. Plenty of things around that help. Rose colored glasses my friend. Oh and the definition of porn is not nudity.
