I found this movie coming out soon called God’s Not Dead.

After watching the trailer I don’t think this movie is very good. It seems to portray non believers in rather arrogant ways (Now some non believers are like this, but many are not). I do like how the philosophy professor quotes Frederich Nietzsche “God is Dead” (though I’m not sure if the screen writers noticed that.) because I like learning about philosophy even though I disagree with the quote. I also like how Shane Harper’s character has the courage to take on the professor, but I think his arguments will be rather weak and not with reason, but with ignorant statements. Overall while I do not like the movie I hope the message it is trying to spread will reach those who are seeking. 👍

So what do you think of the trailer 🤷
 
I haven’t seen the trailer, but I do have a feeling it will become cannon fodder for atheists.

Isn’t that an urban legend? 🙂

Einstein’s own views on religion seem to have veered between Deism and a cautious Theism; he identified culturally as Jewish but wasn’t a practicing Orthodox Jew.

That said, I like this one:

Nietzsche: “God is dead!”
(a few years later)
God: “Nietzsche is dead.”

Of course, but with as much as it gets passed around, I think some people would be surprised to hear it 😃

There are at least three “angry anti-God philosophy professor” vs. “brave Christian undergrad” chain emails in circulation. The Einstein thing comes from probably the best known one.

How awesome is it that they’ve adapted this concept into a full length movie? Maybe next they can make a movie about the one where the only Christian soldier in a platoon full of atheists manages to convert them all by driving a Jeep with no engine in it.

I’m not even sure I’d go as far as to say he was a deist. I’d put him closer to a sort of Spinoza-style pantheist.
 
Another movie due for release early this year is “the perfect wave” staring Scot Eastwood.
It’s supposed to be base on the true story of a guy from New Zealand who was stung several times by a box jelly fish.
It will be interesting to see Clints son on screen!

Well, he did refer to God as “the Old One” at times, which is where I got the Deist idea from. But maybe he was just being facetious there. 🙂 This article certainly supports the “cosmic pantheist” view:

I think this film will reach both camps with a common ground in philosophy. May it spark discussion! 🙂

How do you know? It does not come out until tomorrow. There are already 10,000+ comments on Youtube, many (from the sample that I just saw) of which are saying the same thing and more.

Was there a preview showing or something that I am not aware of?

A theater in my city played it tonight. I thought it was pretty good. Nothing more dramatic than how some people really act.
 
I suspect it will do pretty well at the box office, but not be a blockbuster. Despite claims about the decline in religious belief, Americans LOVE to argue about religion, whether they are religious or not. (Look at how many atheists frequent this site, a religious one. Look at how many comments a statement about religion, pro or con, creates on any on-line article.) I don’t know about the level of apologetic argument in this film, but the average moviegoer may be surprised to learn that there are good arguments for God, and that asking inane questions like “Well, who created God, then?” does not really flummox most Christians.

If the film causes more discussion among filmgoers on the drive home, it will probably be a good thing.
 
Just watched the movie on DVD. My wife and I both thought it was very good. Other than wishing there was a priest in it as well as the Protestants, it was very convincing - but then again, we are believers so what do we know?
 
I think the general consensus is that this movie is not that good and I agree with that. It was preachy and really didn’t have that much substance or subtlety to it, some of the arguments were not good ones like the “if there were no God then there is no reason to be good”. With pretty much everything it is easy to say something is good if you agree with it’s message. If a non-christian saw this I’m sure they would think this was not a good movie, not just for promoting an unconvincing preachy message but for the fact the movie was not entertaining (except for the ending, that was unintentionally hilarious).

I always look to see if there are any good christian movies that are not the “typical christian” type people love to joke about, and I believe this movie is the latter.
