God's role in morality

I’ve been debating this with my brother – curious to see what you all think.

Does morality have to come from God?
If so, can morality exist if God did not exist? Like, if God did not exist, is it possible for people to be moral?

That is question that come through the history of philosophy. Look for Kant, Plato and other authors. It is a question to be studied.

My solution is that there is no morality without God.
But, as nothing exists but for God…
The question is irrelevant…

Oh stay away from Kant and Descartes at least at first they are a bit mental although Kant has some interesting things to say. I would start with St. Thomas Aquinas and then read Plato and Aristotle in light of St Thomas and our Catholic tradition.

All morality does come from God, whether it be by virtue of the natural Law written in our hearts(cf. Rom 2:14) or more directly through revelation.
