God's will, or mine?

I’ve been discerning monastic life for a while now. In March I stayed at a monastery in Italy which was amazing, however, since then my sense of pull to that way of life has diminished, although perhaps this is a temporary thing. Recently, I’ve found that I want wholeheartedly to be a priest, at the same time, however, I have never felt ‘called’ to the priesthood like I did to monastic life for a long time. The Church in the modern world is slowly but surely crumbling and I would love to do my bit and do something about it by becoming a priest, witnessing, preaching, etc, but as I said, I feel this is my will, not God’s, any advice?

Pray for discernment.
O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God. Give them courage and strength to follow God’s holy will. Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vineyards where they will labor in God’s holy service. Amen.

This is a case for the diocesan vocations director, and not a public forum. Only those who can meet you face-to-face can really tell if you’ve a vocation. Get a Spiritual director, make adoration on a regular basis, and don’t forget Mass and rosary.

Work on the cloister of the heart. You may have been attracted to a monastery for the benefit of seeing how they live and take in the ambience.

Blessings,

Yes, definitely make the Spiritual Exercises! Also, find a spiritual director.

In our society, so much emphasis is placed on how we feel, but when it comes to the spiritual life, the #1 rule is, “Don’t trust your emotions!” (You’d learn more about that in the Spiritual Exercises.) All the religious life needs is a firm will to give it a trial, and you seem to have that.

How wonderful !
Once every two weeks I’m cheered immensely by a post !
You sound like a great guy 😇

Sometimes, our will and God’s will line up! Yippee. Hail Mary, full of grace…

As St. Augustine would say, “Love and do what you will.” God is love, and if you do something out of love then you are doing God’s will. It is God who puts every good intention in our hearts. Discern and pray and be determined to do what your heart tells you to do. Tell me you want to be a holy priest and you have my prayers all the way! God bless you and your family.
