I have realized that I am a failure, a miserable human being, and one who is full of stupidity. For the past 2 weeks I have been thrown through a loop and I can’t handle the things that are beyond my control. Now I’m worried I have unintentionally ruined the rest of my life. But I don’t know if I’m being intensely scrupulous/paranoid or if I’m worrying over nothing. I am so confused that I don’t know what to believe anymore.

Which is why I’m wondering, how can we trust in God’s will? I trust in God, but maybe not fully trusting. I don’t know how to “offer myself” up (I think that’s the wrong terminology, is it more like “offering up my troubles?”).

Are there any Catholic resources (whether books by Catholic authors, Saints, etc.) that I should be drawn to with regards to dealing with anxiety and other “troubles of the world?” I’m constantly ruminating over a single issue and I can’t find the motivation to pray, read the Bible, or do anything for that matter.

Oh, I don’t know?..things only seem the way now as they are…but if i were to be too patronizing, saying…in passing, yea, i understand the bad luck; but i would not be your friend, would I? have you ever noticed from family or friends-as you share a hurt-well they might only seem to listen…so goes your new goal…be sure to review friend ships, although well meaning…people are busy, or in bad moods, or really may be a little up-it-ty (their status or social class); worse than that trend is that they might give me a numeral value, make me into a number, which is what society trends toward/ in my case , i speak from experience that as few connections that i have-people seem to influence my view of myself (is that healthy though?)
once that is reviewed…Next, (one thing at at time here) that loop you are going through?/ well re-engineer or re-program it…after all it is a loop, …this would be changed to more of a flow chart; a flow chart of the soul…this is to ask questions; your questions seems to need a flow chart…

As CS lewis might suggest about science that science only recognizes things when these are measured-to weigh, to be given a number…quantities ; then he goes on to compare quantities with qualities/ a quality cannot be weighed ; while St therese might refute science in a nice way to suggest there is a science of (divine) love…if there was such a thing:" She inquires…) the she weighs a quality of divine love in her heart…

How can we trust God’s will? would you permit me to change this question a bit?
Do we know God’s will? Is there God’s will in extreme life situation, so extreme to draw out a degree of life in man(depression)? Yet, is reality only the visible? Is there suffering in God’s creation?

a flow chart of your own answers, at least, let’s the subconscious yield hidden thoughts.
I think in this flow chart-it might be flowing toward Fulton Sheen’s-old TV show-available on youtube- Life Is Worth Living…tell me how it works!!!👍

My suggestion about prayer is just to do it. yes – get a rosary and say the rosary. You might not be able to say the rosary without distraction for a week or two, or longer. But, I found it helps to just keep at it, and to keep focusing on prayer. Prayer takes practice.

But, pray also in a spontaneous way, and just mentally talk to God about your worries.

We all have the same problem of lacking in trust of God’s will. There, too, KNOW that God’s will is perfect, even if I get a diagnosis of cancer in the next two weeks, God’s will is perfect.

Bible reading? I suggest you read the Bible slowly, whatever part you read (I recommend the psalms.) Contemplate God in each psalm. Don’t be afraid to re-read a psalm, day after day, until you are comfortable with it.

Whatever you have done to ruin your life, you should know that you can set things right with God, in confession, if sin is your issue. Sin damages our soul, but repentance and confession is a cure better than any medical cure for the body.

I would also suggest that when you pray, you pray for others. Think of all this things you have to pray for, perhaps starting with prayer to relieve the drought in California, for example, or for relief of earthquake victims in Haiti and typhoon victims in the Phillipines.
Pray for the conversion of the atheists you know, for the conversion of those whose faith has grown cold, etc. BELIEVE in the power of prayer - believe it and don’t second-guess it.

A wise man once said that if a person said only one prayer in their life, it should be to thank God.

I heard a priest say once that praying the rosary is like spiritual exercise, some times you don’t feel like it, but you have to do it anyway.

You just have to pick yourself up and keep going. Handle the next job in front of you and then the one after. One at a time. Keep going. You’ll get through.

I’m so sorry. I will pray for you.
You are not a failure, nor a miserable human being, nor full of stupidity. I promise. I understand, though. Many, many of us (myself included) have had those moments, weeks, months or even years of feeling that way. Don’t let these feelings separate you from Him.

Offering it up: it’s kinda like this, if I can explain it. Let’s suppose there is a finite amount of suffering allowed in the world in one day. Now, if you could struggle with the pain, in order that someone somewhere else couldn’t…you accept that pain, and offer it up for suffering to God, in order that someone else may be free of pain. I went through a very painful time for many years in my 20s. One day I broke through, and made it. But I could see how someone else, who was in a different state of life, perhaps without a closeness to God, or a supportive spouse, might not have been able to handle it (my sister never would have). I said to my husband, “If the pain and suffering that I went through might alleviate or save someone else from, pain, then it was worth it.”

Now giving God your troubles is (or can be) different. It’s something I"m learning. We want to take our troubles head on, fix them ourselves (or at least, I do). But I’ve at times gotten to the point where I have to say: GOD! I can’t do this! Help me to remember that YOU can take this cross, this pain, for me, to carry it, or even alleviate it." When I’ve confessed my sins to my priest at times, he’s reminded me that God is there for me, that He will take on this Cross for me, and that He already has.

Trusting God, trusting in God, can at times be difficult. We are human; we tend to see things more concretely. But we can and always should trust in God.

I would recommend praying, and perhaps, the Divine Mercy (beautiful and easy, especially when in distress). Even praying “Jesus I trust in you. Jesus, I love you. Jesus, I need you.” has been powerful for me personally.

My ‘go-to’ saint for this type of distress is St. Dymphna, and my others are St. Teresa of Avila, St. Jude, St. Cecilia, St. Therese of Liseaux.

You are more than welcome to email me if I can be of any additional help for you. Focus on God’s love for you, no matter if you feel you don’t deserve it. God created us. We are not worthless in any way.

Peace,

I suggest you read St Padre Pio on suffering. He said that after you have suffered for a whileGod Himself will re - establish you (make you better). I think he called it waiting for the dew to fall from Heaven.

You must read *Heliotropium *by Fr. Jeremias Drexelius. You can even read the book online. The book is excellent and is just what you need to read. God bless you.

For some reason I’ve been tempted to read Julian of Norwich’s works. She speaks of God’s love and Jesus’ sufferings in her writings and I think I could relate to such things that she wrote.

I am just hoping that I’m being excessively scrupulous for no reason and nothing gets worse for me. I am worried about my future.

I’m sorry you are feeling so down right now.

God’s will - we can trust. It is the only thing we can trust! We certainly cannot trust ourselves. But we must always have faith and know that ultimately, in the end, God will make all things perfect and beautiful.

Trust in Him. He will never let you down. Christ sees you, he knows you, he loves you, he will forgive you.

You really must read *Heliotropium *by Fr. Jeremias Drexelius. The book is a spiritual masterpiece and is just what you need to read right now. Please trust me! You will even want to thank me when you are through reading it!
