Going for a confession before novena?

Hello,
While praying a novena I came across the thought that it would have been better if I went to a confession and truly reconciled to Jesus before I started novena.
I am on day 3 of my novena right now.

Would it be too late to go to confession for the purpose of praying novena at this point? Should I go for a confession and then start a whole new novena? Or is going for a confession sometime during the novena good enough?

His answer is, go to confession, but don’t worry about starting it in a state of mortal sin.
