Yes, I recall seeing a biography of him.

i think he actually used an overturned canoe as an altar, and used the paddles to form a cross. (I’m sure he brought the other nesecities though.
the instructions are for a suitable table (i guess an overturned canoe would suffice?) with linen on top, and a corporal

I’ll take a different track on this; if you don’t like the theology these people have, it might be an idea to go to the Mass out of concern for your spouse who will be attending.

When my wife converted I found I wanted to go with her to events at her old Church just to protect her from some of the well-meaning anti-Catholics that were there.

and by identifying the gourp as liberal, thats where the objectiveness in analyzing the situation ended

we shouldn’t be basing whether they can celebrate Mass elsewhere or not on the merit that they are labeled “liberal”. and that word is thrown around in these forums so freely that anyone who doesn’t attend a TLM can be branded a liberal

we should look at the situation and discuss it for what it is. assuming that they are the evil kind of liberal, that still doesn’t end their rights within the Church to do something the Church would allow.
I did not simply label these people as “liberal”. I have given plenty of information about their attitudes. They do not have any rights to ignore Canon Law or to ignore the rubrics of the Mass. Redemptionis Sacramentum makes very clear how the canon in question is to be understood. It is up to the bishop to decide if any given case constitutes a necessity. If these people have gone through the bishop about having this Mass then it is allowed. Otherwise (which is what I expect) their Mass is in violation of Canon Law.

This is a good point. Unfortunately, when I mention things that are wrong about a Mass to my spouse all it seems to do is create emotional turmoil for both of us. It is a source of a lot of tension between us and I am still seeking the right balance in this area.

Oi! Times like this make me feel very blessed that my wife and I are on the same page. At the time we started dating we weren’t though, so I understand where you’re coming from with this.

Canon Law issues aside, I see these as the options;
  • If you DON’T go your spouse will be further influenced by these people.
  • If you DO go, it might set you off and cause issues between the two of you.
  • If you go to some of the event but not the Mass that could cause issues as well. Your spouse might feel pressured to leave with you, you might feel pressured to stay etc etc. On the plus side, this one is more of a compromise which might make communication better down the road.
Which of these three not-so-good options are the most appealing?

If it makes you feel any better I’ll say a Divine Mercy Chaplet for you tomorrow when I hit the Adoration Chapel (seems like you could use that kind of support).

It makes me feel very much better. 🙂 Thank you. I am planning to go to the social part but not for the Mass. I have discussed this with my spouse and we are both ok with this way of handling it. We actually talked about it more calmly than this kind of discussion usually ends up. I only did one little rant. 😊 Oh well. I’m making progress.

Yeah, that sort of thing takes time. A lot of time. Time time. I think if you handle this right (and with prayer) meeting your spouse in the middle like this will do a lot of good for the both of you.

And don’t be afraid to cut loose and vent on here. Better you spaz out with us than with your spouse 🙂
