Another thing is in 10-20 years these thoughts won’t even matter. You will reflect back on this time with happiness as some of your best really wonderful memories of your kid. Enjoy pregnancy, enjoy your baby. Your baby is a gift straight from God and these years don’t last, babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers, these stages don’t keep. Huge congrats again on becoming a mom 👍

So I got married last summer and recently found out I’m 7 weeks along with a baby! At first I was happy and anxious, but now the happiness has given way to…terror? :o This is our first child and I have absolutely no idea how my husband and I are going to do this (be parents). There’s the financial aspect, who will watch it while we work, how I will deal with a crying baby (I don’t have much experience with children) and lack of sleep, how our lives and relationship will change, extra responsibilities, etc. We both come from families where you waited until you owned a house and an SUV and were like 30 before you had your 2-3 kids. Husband and I are 24/25 and rent in a tiny apartment, are still figuring out our careers, drive small old cars, and basically have no assets. When I think of telling our families (his is not Catholic) I worry about all the judging and gossiping that will happen and feel like we will be expected to deal with the consequences of “being irresponsible” ourselves. My parents flipped out (in a bad way, said I was too young) when we told them we were getting married and will probably flip out at this news too. We’re visiting them this weekend and I’m dreading sharing the news. Personally I don’t think 24 is young at all…but the fact that none of our friends are married let alone having kids yet and our families aren’t expecting this to happen for a while makes me feel like I’m in over my head with no one to help and it’s terrifying. But maybe it’s all the hormones. Any advice or encouragement on how to deal with this life change and breaking the news would be much appreciated!
Praying for you & your husband. God bless.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to write back with such wonderful advice! All of it is so helpful. My husband and I saw our baby for the first time yesterday on the ultrasound and both fell in love

As a mother of 3, the first one at 28, I love reading your post. You are precious! The very idea that you are so worried shows what a great parent you will be. Life WILL change for sure, but after that first baby all of a sudden you change too. You start to realize how petty some of the “before children” things were. All of a sudden you have a whole new perspective on life. It’s not easy, but it does get easier with each baby. You learn from your mistakes and learn to love differently. I remember being so scared when I was pregnant with my second that I wouldn’t have enough of myself to share with 2 kids. Boy was I wrong! I learned instead that I don’t have to share my heart, I just grew a whole new heart for baby number 2, and then again for baby number 3! My heart and love grew exponentially! It didn’t have to be divided!

You don’t have to give up everything about the life you had, but you will find that you won’t mind giving up things that you once thought you couldn’t live without. Again, your whole perspective changes, in a good way!

My dad used to always say that “There is NEVER a good time to have a baby!” There is always something that will get in the way; school, job, money, time, friends, family, dreams, etc. Babies are inconvenient! LOL! You just have to do it! If now is your time (and obviously it is) then just roll with the punches. It is the most terrifying, unpredictable, inconvenient, wonderful, joyous, exceptional journey you will ever take! And once you become a parent you will forever be on the journey of parenthood to your death.

Smile!! You have been given the gift of a lifetime! Hang on and enjoy! 🙂
