Hello everyone. At the moment I’m going through a time where I’m doubting The existence of God. I don’t know what’s true and not anymore and I am just genuinely confused with life. I was wondering about something though. I wanted to just give it all another go and go to Confession and just see what will make of it. Would this be alright or would this be considered a not good Confession

All feedback is greatly appreciated
Thanks so much!

The devil will try all ways to pull us from God. Keep plodding on. Dont give up on God.

Doubting whether a thing exists does not make it nonexistent. Thus, if you doubt whether God is real but are doing your best to follow him you are fine. Everyone has doubts. I’ve doubted whether Christ really is in the Eucharist while I’m receiving. That is not the ideal obviously but everyone has doubts.

Doubt is not a sin…acting on that doubt would be.

Doubt is a sign of having a dynamic faith…look at Thomas…he vocalized his thoughts, but if you read the gospel carefully, there is no indication he actually touched the wounds of Christ…his faith overcsme doubt and made his faith even stronger!

As noted, doubting is not a sin. Without getting into a side track about how long the time for confession is, it is not the place for extensive spiritual direction, which seems what you are seeking. Make an appointment with a priest.

The very first thing I would like to consider is my level trust, love, and bonding I have that church (Note: One Catholic Church is Not the same as another. Personalities can clash and destroy everything.)

I would think going to confession would actually be a sign you don’t doubt. It sounds like you are conflicted. You have some doubts but at the same time enough Faith (a gift from God) to go to confession. I don’t think this is uncommon. We can all struggle. What can often help us in our mental struggles is to do things. The way out of mental issues isn’t always just thinking more or harder.

I think Confession can only help you here. I took a similar issue to Confession (more on doubting God’s expectations of me) and the confessor was so helpful I left in tears because I was so relieved to have made some movement.

Remember, Confession isn’t only about forgiveness. It’s also about receiving grace to turn away from sin.

I believe posters who say categorically that doubting is not a sin are wrong.
From the CCC:
2088 The first commandment requires us to nourish and protect our faith with prudence and vigilance, and to reject everything that is opposed to it. There are various ways of sinning against faith:
Voluntary doubt about the faith disregards or refuses to hold as true what God has revealed and the Church proposes for belief. Involuntary doubt refers to hesitation in believing, difficulty in overcoming objections connected with the faith, or also anxiety aroused by its obscurity. If deliberately cultivated doubt can lead to spiritual blindness.
Doubting can certainly be sinful. The Church teaches us that we are required to nourish and protect our faith. Voluntary doubt is always sinful. Involuntary doubt can be sinful. I would say to the OP, go to confession, not because your doubt is a sin (I would discuss that with the priest), but because you need to nourish your faith. Confession is part of that.
