I understand how you feel. Yesterday, I wrote down everything I could think of that I did in the past 30 years and went to confession. Let me explain that even though I had confessed all of these already, I just didnt have that “forgiven” feeling; which is the BIG sin, to reject that you are forgiven. And when I explained to the priest I felt I needed to “clean house again” even though I had already confessed some major ones from the past, I still needed to confess all over again.
He explained that many feel this way near Easter and although you have been forgiven, perhaps you have NOT FORGIVEN YOURSELF and that is what brings many of us to “over-confess” He very patiently and kindly absolved me again, and I felt much better.
For my pennance he suggested the prayer to Free the Souls in Purgatory ten times, not only for my sins, but those that can no longer help themselves. It’s always a good idea to help them out.
Here is a prayer for you, too.
Eternal Father,
I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the Universal Church,
those in my own home and within my family.
Amen.
