I think “sexual impurity” is too vague. There is no use trying to dance around it, and I know some priests prefer penitents to state their sins plainly. :o
david
My point is that you start out with the umbrella category, and the priest will ask you for more specifics if/when he needs them :angel1:

With regards to your feelings of self hatred, yes I do feel the same. Unfortunately for me, it takes me a long time (with the help of a very loving best friend and some others) to pick myself back up again. One thing generally leads to another e.g. hate myself for committing the sin, think of something related and hate myself for that!

But it doesn’t have to be like that. This is the pattern that is not good for us. The Devil loves it, but God doesn’t. He wants you to talk to Him and learn to love yourself for who you are and accept those things you have to work on. After all, nobody is perfect!

I know where you are coming from and can relate to you. But start working on changing the feelings today, one by one, event by event, and no matter how small the difference, it still means something!
Thanks for your advice earlier too

I just got back from Confession and Mass, and I feel great!! It was really easy. He’s a great priest to confess to. I don’t know why I get so scared. I didn’t bring it up at all, but he said that the devil works through discouragement and feelings of negativity. I have a clean slate now, and hopefully I won’t commit this sin again (if not ever again, than hopefully for a while)! Thank you all so much!

That’s great! Well Done!
So pleased you feel better and can start again.

I know I won’t scandalize the priest. Mostly, I’m just ashamed, and I don’t want him to think poorly of me.

I will definitely go tomorrow, even though I don’t want to admit my sins to him. I don’t like to be in the state of mortal sin… I always find myself sinning more and generally feeling badly about things. I go to Mass during the week too and I want to be able to receive the Eucharist.

thanks,
david

First off, going to confession is the right thing to do. I felt the same as you because I know my parish priest very well – he’s one of the holiest people I know – and I was ashamed to confess certain things to him out of fear of what he’d think of me.

It takes courage to confess, and this makes confession all the more meaningful because you are acknowledging to yourself the gravity of sin. This is the way the priest will most likely look upon you. He will not see a person with a bad habit – he will see a repentent sinner who seeks forgiveness from God.

God bless you, and keep the faith.

Hey David that’s great! I’ll pray for you that you aren’t tempted anymore. We all know how hard it is to overcome certain behaviors, we all have them. It seems as though everything in today’s society is easily accessible and acceptable and that makes it twice as hard to overcome many things.

See? What did I tell you? 😉

I’m looking forward to my next confession. Maybe this Saturday morning.

I slipped on a couple of things. I’m not going into the details, but they were definite slips back into old habits.

Good job!👍

Don’t worry in future. I heard one priest say that he’s heard basically everything except canabalism confessed.

Uh, wait…

Er… nope. I didn’t commit that. Whew!

If ever commited, it’s the one sin that just eats away at you.😛

I’m hittin’ the penalty box tomorrow and I sometimes feel the same way as the OP. It’s been about three months since my last confession and I’ve been VERY good during that time. I hate to go back and confess the same thing again, but we’re only human after all.😉

david, i too have been where you are…

try to remember that the (seemingly) endless cycle of sin/reconciliation is an apprenticeship in humility. It is precisely what we fear most (our beloved priests thinking less of us) that keeps us tied to this sin… Pride truly goeth before the fall. Talk to your priest… tell him you are struggling and that you feel ashamed having to confess and reconfess the same sin. It will get better, I promise! Also, ask Our Lady for her help… she wants to help you be pure

IM me anytime if you like

Thank you, Kolbelover. I have been praying to Our Lady, and she has helped tremendously! I say three Hail Mary’s when I wake up and before bed for purity and chastity. I haven’t sinned in this way again, but it’s only been a week or so. Hopefully I can keep it up.

David, Keep in mind that others of us have different daily temptations in different categories, that are just as troubling/embarrassing to us, even though they may not be in the sexual category. For my daily (non-sexual) habits and impulses and weaknesses, believe me I need to pray every day about those, or I fall fast!

Blessings,
E.

Just to put your mind at ease a little…

I completely understand where you’re coming from, not wanting your priest to think less of you. I had the same concern, as I think VERY highly of my confessor. I actually shared with him once that the only reason I question having him for my confessor is that because he was going to hear all of my sins, I was really worried that he would think less of me. This is what he told me…

anyone with as much love for God in their hearts, like you, I have the most profound respect for.”

The level of respect your priest will have for you because you have made a good confession, far outweighs any feelings he might have about your particular sins.
