This will be our first time and I’ll be taking my 13 yr old dd and 9 yr old ds. Any advice prior to our trip? Dressing for the cold weather? What to pack?

Also, do you think it (in)appropriate to attend at their ages? I’ve always instilled in them the truth of abortion, but they’ve never seen any images of our precious babies murdered in the womb.

Any (name removed by moderator)ut would be greatly appreciated.

Peace.

March for Life veteran here. First of all, it makes me extraordinarily happy to read about people going to the March for the first time. It’s an event like no other. I used to have a joke with one my high school teachers that the March for Life, in penance for the unborn, tends to always fall on one of the coldest days of the year. The forecast looks like it’s going to be cloudy and in the mid-20s. So definitely dress warm. I suggest handwarmers as well as there’s a lot of time spent standing around the National Mall until the March actually begins.

Pack snacks for sure. The March is a very family friendly event. As for the graphic images, not many people actually have them on their picket signs, but they do come up in large banners on the sidewalks. If you see them coming up, maybe try to steer your 9 year old away, but you know you’re child.

There is something so holy about marching in solidarity with believers from all over not just the USA, but foreigners who travel to join us for the day.

If you’re from out of town I also suggest looking at Metro’s map ahead of time and reading about the fare machines. The Metro System gets pretty clogged up with tourists so knowing what you’re doing ahead of time can make the lines all the better.

God Bless you and your family!

Perhaps you should come to San Francisco for the March for Life – the weather is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! I’ve attended the past couple of years, and thousands also attend – believe it or not, the news is NEVER in our local San Francisco newspaper – the Chronicle!!!

Since they have not seen any aborted babies I would probably not bring the 9 year old. I would prepare the 13 year old for what she might see. Does she even know what a human fetus at 12 weeks looks like? You might show her such pictures first so she is not totally shocked by it if there are some there. Bring some trail mix and water for snacks.

I am not one for marches per se, but have been on one. I would really like to see more people open their homes to pregnant teens and women who are struggling with the idea of having an abortion. Or even, promising to adopt the child if the woman or girl will keep the baby.

Have you or a group of your friends ever thought of sponsoring a pregnant women? I can’t do anything on my own, but with a group of folks I could at least provide some financial support to that end.

Maybe you could start a group willing to do that in your Parish. It’s just a thought that I have. You could even work with other Churches then the Catholic Church and make it an Echuemenical effort.

I will pray for your intentions and those on the march.

Well, don’t plan on watching the rally… It’s not that entertaining. DRESS WARM! Wear layers! Its a great day just to walk the march! Stay among pro-lifers and you’re kids should be fine. Stay away from pro-choice people, they will scandalize your children.

If you’re a trad, I recommend assisting at these events with a ‘Juventutem flavor’ 🙂
