Going to Mass for homework

For my Spanish class (senior high), I got approval to the Mass for the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe for points towards my grade. Would this be against some no-religion-in-schools law? Some Catholics may not like laws like these (I don’t!), but breaking the law is sinful so long as the law is not immoral (which I don’t see this one as).

What do you think?
 
What are you asking? You said you got approval. So there is no problem, right?

Having no religion in school simply means religion cannot be taught in public school, except as comparative religions, and no one can make the entire student body pray to God at the same time. Most schools do allow a Moment of Silence, which one can use to pray to God.

How would you feel if you had a person of the Muslim faith as an instructor and he or she required all students to face east, kneel, and pray to Allah at the appointed times? Or a Hindu instructor who required students to pray to one of the Hindu gods? Not good, right? So why would it be OK for Christian instructors to require all students to pray?

No. There is no such thing.

The constitution prohibits the state from *establshing *a religion. It does not prohibit you from *practicing *a religion or from incorporating a religious event into a school assigment of your choosing.

You are confused regarding what the constitution (not law) actually includes.
 
Please tell me your joking. Youre nearly done HS and dont understand basic constitutional points?

Besides that Our Lady of Guadalupe actually appeared to a Native American and not a Latino. They had their own language and culture before the spanish like the Iraquios and the Comanchee. Juan Diago was not Spanish.

Yes, but the Latino culture is very much merged with the native culture that was there prior to Spain’s arrival. It is not really comparable to Comanchees and British settlers.

I know this because I live in Texas. 😃
