Going to more than one Mass on Sunday

Is it done to go to Mass more than one time on Sunday? Has anyone here/ does anyone do this regularly?
Anyways… I was just looking at Church times tomorrow… I traveled a little ways to this smaller older Church a couple months ago for my first Latin Mass experience (which was great… but that’s another story). And I was looking at their bulletin, and I just find out that tomorrow is this Church’s 100th anniversary and the Bishop of the Archdiocese of Birmingham will be there, Robert Baker.
Anyways, Mass at that Church is moved late to 2 p.m. probably because it’s a celebratory one with the Bishop coming and all. And, the Catholic Church I normally go to down the street will have Mass at 10:30 a.m. *. But, now I’m considering going to both.

And, if that wasn’t enough, I read some news that there’s a Church in Montgomery that for the first time (and maybe just this once) will have Latin Mass there as well. But tomorrow is like the first big unveiling of the Latin Mass being there too.

Soooo… I’m pretty excited 😃 . I’ve done the map questing, and it looks like 4 hours of driving and I can attend 3 different masses tomorrow, :extrahappy:AND SEE THE BISHOP :dancing:.
Well, I’ll fill y’all in on how it goes. I’m giving the Holy Spirit the credit how this came together so spontaneously. I’m gonna get some sleep.**
 
I think you can go to as many Masses as you like but you can only receive Holy Communion in 2 of those Masses.
 
You may attend mass at as many Churches as you like,
however, you may receive communion once unless their is an extra ordinary circumstance.
 
FAH was correct You can go to as many Masses as you want to, but you can only receive communion twice.

Church tourism is nice. In addition to the spiritual benefits, you can usually get some great glimpses into the history of the locale, enjoy the architecture, and meet some really nice people.

I do my “church gypsying” in the summertime—can’t bypass those parish picnics or lawn fetes! I hit the early Mass at my own church, and then head out on the highway in search of some place that is having a lawn fete. Frequently, a second Mass is going on as well.
 
Can.917- A person who has received the Most Holy Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only during the celebration of the Eucharist in which the person participates, with due regard for the prescription of Canon law 921- 2.
Can.921-2 Even if they have received Communion in the same day, those who are in danger of death are strongly urged to receive again.

Right–you can receive the Eucharist again on the same day if the second time is a Mass in which you are participating. If you are in danger of death you are encouraged by the Church to receive again, not just merely allowed.

There is nothing there about only receiving once unless it is under extraordinary circumstances. The only stipulation is that at the second reception it has to be at Mass, not at a Communion Service or any other situation in which Communion is distributed outside of Mass.

I can understand the confusion because when I was growing up we were not allowed to receive the Eucharist more than once a day–unless you were at death’s door. And when they changed that, it was not well-publicicized, that I am aware of.

Of course you are forgiven–we all make mistakes.🙂

of course it is okay, why wouldn’t it be? not necessary especially if it means a lot of driving, but nothing wrong with it. I frequently am at several Masses on the weekend, first communions, making announcements etc.
 
I attend mass twice weekly during Religious Education classes. I attend 10AM mass with my family and I then volunteer to usher the 6PM mass as during RE timeframe the 6PM mass on Sunday is rather full.
I love it! I may be weird to some but I just love being in Church. So to me it is no bother it is quite an honor. Once when on vacation I attended every Mass for a week. I did not know at the time I was only to take the Eucharist a maximum of twice. But, I did help either usher or EMHC at every single mass. Once I found out I confessed it, the Priest found it funny that I confessed to going to Church too much.
 
One time I went to a Tridentine Mass, then to an Ukrainian Catholic Mass, and then to a Novus Ordo Mass (the regular Mass) all in the same Sunday, in the same town. It was fabulous… although I had to run from one place to the other, as I did not have a car.

Oh man, that is so legit.

And I was not aware that you were only supposed to receive the Eucharist no more than two times in the same day. Luckily, I didn’t receive at all today because I wasn’t able to go to confession before either of the masses.

Anyways, I had an awesome Sunday today. There was such a great contrast between the two Masses I went to. One packed out Church that was putting one row of folded metal chairs in the aisles in order to accommodate all the extra people for the 100th year celebration and see the Bishop- they even put around 20 people back up where the choir was!! That was a Novus Ordo Mass concelebrated by the Bishop with no less than 10 other priests.

Then I drove down to a small Church celebrating the Latin Mass, there were about 50 people there, and one young priest. It was so much more quiet and personable. When he gave his homily I don’t think he even had a microphone, and I could still hear him better than the Bishop.

Just because of the occasion of both I got to hear the Bishop talk a lot about the history of the one Church parish, and the other the priest talked about the riches in the Extraordinary Form, and into Pope Benedict opening doors in the Church but not forcing anything on it (in the liturgical sense). I was expecting just standard messages, but they both focused on the importance of what they were doing. Which was awesome.
 
Another factor is how active a person is. At one point, my own father was going to one Mass as music leader, another as Lector, and a third to sing in the choir. All because not enough other people were willing to step up to stewardship as lay ministers.
 
Jerry its not wierd to love being at church. Once i was lectoring at the 7:30am and EMHCing at the 9am. I was at church for three straight hours. I did ask permission of the pastor to make sure it was okay with him, lest he think that I am seeking publicity. And yes I did receive at both Masses.
 
I go to daily Mass during the week, then the Saturday Vigil Mass and go back again for a Sunday morning Mass.

I used to go to daily and Saturday morning Masses plus the Vigil Mass – my son used to tell his friends that his mom would go to Mass every day but Sunday. As I understand it, the Sabbath starts in the evening so that Saturday night and Sunday morning are the same day.
 
I went to an OF then my first EF Mass the same day, and I received Holy Communion at both Masses as the OF Mass was an 8am Sunday Mass, the EF Mass was a 11am Mass. The EF was held in a chapel at the cathedral I attended the OF Mass.

I’ve rarely gone to 2 Masses in one day but sometimes go to an EF Mass that is on a weekday in addition to my Sunday obligation.

Is that not cool! I find it wonderful to be able to celebrate Mass more than once a day. I find it beautiful personally. Our Priests have somewhat of a regular schedule so it is a treat to hear different homilies and get the perspective on the Gospel from different sources. I just love Church, when so many people I know act as though there “Sunday Duty” is a bother I am happy to comply.
And the bonus I help the Church at each Mass as it seems you do. I get to help so I can enjoy something I love. Great thing.
