I hope it happens on our campus!

(I didn’t know St. Albert the Great was an alchemist though.)

Alchemy was the forerunner of chemistry. Chemists inherited a lot of alchemical procedures.

Ah, got it. Alchemy doesn’t have a positive association (e.g., superstition, magic) – didn’t want a saint (Doctor of the Church no less) to be associated with such.

I believe that I read not along ago that the scientist who heads up CERN, when asked, said that he figured at least 50% of the scientists at CERN were people of faith.

I wish that were true for biology…

I had a professor once (he was a physicist but he also taught math) that is Catholic. I needed some help with math so I went into his office (I had scheduled an appointment) and found him…reading the Bible, and in it, he had a Mother Teresa bookmark. Two stereotypes shot in the foot, right there. “Catholics don’t read the Bible” and “Religion renders God obsolete”. Clearly not. Or at least not in his mind. My mother’s background is in biology, and whilst not particularly religious, is a believer.

Albert the Great is credited for the discovery of the element arsenic.

Poisoning was possibly the most common form of assassination in his day.

Dante perpetuated the myth that St. Thomas Aquinas had been poisoned. Some believed that St. Bonaventure also might have been poisoned. Both had powerful enemies within the Church.

Thank you for posting this. I would like to join their group. I am often belittled as a scientist for believing in God.

I think, if not today, the majority of scientists historically had some sort of religious faith

Mass at Massachusetts. 😃

Of course all scientists have mass… 😃
