Hi,

I am not sure where to post this question. I am new to the Church & I would like to find a good book to learn more about different Saints. I know that there are many Saints, but would like to find a good book that covers several. I can’t afford to buy a lot of books, but wanted to get a good book to start reading & teaching my children about the Saints. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kiki

The classic is Butler’s Lives of the Saints - more in there than you can poke a stick at.

Most libraries would have at least some books on individual saints or groups of saints.

I have a book called “Encyclopedia of Saints”, it literally has everything! It retails on Amazon for $30, but I noticed there is “used and new” at around $20. Here’s the link:

Another great book that is full of beautiful pictures (thinking it might be great for kids visually) is a book called: “Saints, a Year in Faith and Art”. There’s a saint for every day of the year and it’s relatively cheap (which surprised me when I bought it because the pictures are breathtaking). The price is $13.50 on Amazon. Here’s the link:

If I had to absolutely choose between the two, it would be the latter just because of the artwork. 🙂

for children get the Catholic Book of Saints from St Joseph CAtholic Book Publishing (it is yellow, like the Catholic Children’s Picture Bible from the same publisher). Depending on their ages, St. Joseph also has cheap paperbacks, each with 10 saints, there is a set of 8-10 booklets in a slipcase. They also have Saints coloring books.

for infor on saints right now, go to americancatholic.org, click on saint of the day, and right under it, for ABC lists of saints by name, or by patronage.

Our Sunday Visitor has Saints for Girls and Saints for Boys, which are also great for parents choosing names for their children. They also have a big dictionary of saints volume, and you can find a saint for any name there.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful options on books about the Saints. I can’t wait to order! I found the weblinks to online Saints very useful as well.

Thanks so much! 🙂

James Martin SJ, My Life With the Saints is fantastic. It is now available in paperback at Amazon. I have given copies to several friends/relatives and they all rave over it. It is not a dry history but makes the saints relevent.
