What book would you guys recommend to an Orthodox Christian who knows a fair amount about Eastern Christian theology, practice, and history, but is looking to learn about Catholicism? I’m not looking for something too basic, but not something that only specialists would read either. I would like to read a book that dealt with both Catholic history and theology.

Thanks for any help!

“Catholicism for Dummies” is a good basic book. You don’t have to already be Catholic to understand it.

Catechism of the Catholic Church vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/_INDEX.HTM

A History of Christendom by Warren H. Carroll fraternitypublications.com/the-history-of-christendom-series.html

This was supposed to be a six volume series of the history of the Catholic Church, I don’t know if the sixth was completed. However it goes through the French Revolution. and the prices seem reasonable. I have the first three volumes and can verify that they are excellent.

👍👍

This is the Faith, by Canon Francis Ripley. It’s the furthest thing from a “Dummies” guide, and yet very engaging and readable - and quite thorough. 🙂

How about Fr Robert Barron’s book ‘Catholicism’? It is a companion to his spectacular ten part documentary. Both are quite good.
