Hey, can anyone recommend a good book written by a Jesuit?
I strongly second this. Read The Phenomenon of Man and it will never, never leave you.I discovered Teillard de Chardin when I was at university and have loved his books ever since. They are not always easy reading. He was a scientist and I am not. But they are certainly worth knowing about.
The Hymn of the Universe
The Future of Man
The Phenomenon of Man
The Divine Milieu
Haha I’m reading that exact same book right now for college!!Right now, I’m reading “The Jesuit Guide to (ALMOST) Everything” by Fr. James Martin, SJ. I’m only in the first few pages but I seem to be enjoying it!
The books I have by Fr. John Hardon, S.J., such as The Faith, his guide to the Catechism, and the afore-mentioned Self-Abandonment to Divine Providence by de Caussade, S.J., all have the Imprimatur, Imprimi Potest and/or Nihil Obstat. Also, is it possible if you guys can recommend me a book by a Jesuit that has the nihil obstat, imprimatur, or imprimi potest?
Which guide to the Catechism would you be talking about? Would it be on Ignatius Press? The books I have by Fr. I somehow agree. I follow James Martin on Twitter and I started to notice only now that some of his posts may be “off.”the Jesuit order has become the bastion of liberal dissidents in the past few decades, with the notable exception of those by Fr. John Hardon, SJ who has many great books still in print. Some posters have mentioned James Martin, I would absolutely avoid his books, he is a liberal dissident…
Cliffs:
-avoid modern Jesuit theologians except John Hardon
The copy I have is simply titled, The Faith, by John A. Hardon, S.J. It is a guide to the Catechism of the Catholic Church in a question and answer format, sort of like the old Baltimore Catechism, and published by Servant Books. Very informative, and not so scholarly that it is a chore to read. Well recommended!Which guide to the Catechism would you be talking about? Would it be on Ignatius Press?
