Hello,

I’m trying to learn more about the Eastern Rites, the Byzantine Rite in particular, but I’m interested in all of them. I am a Latin Rite Catholic. So where do Eastern Catholics go to buy good Eastern Catholic books? Is there a publisher out there akin to Tan or Ignatius Press who puts out good quality, orthodox books?

So any specific books or publishers to recommend for a Latin Rite Catholic who is interested in learning more about the Eastern Church?

Pax and God Bless.

Just a bit of advice - from a post by a knowledgeable friend that I saw elsewhere today . Melkite Education Services don’t market their own books. They do it through an outfit called TheoBooks or somesuch (web address is on the Ed Services page that is linked above).

Anyway, my friend pointed out that TheoBooks routinely tack a $4.50 handling charge onto their shipping charge (shipping charge itself is not a problem, but the combined s&h is on the exorbitent side according to him - and looks that way when compared to other companies). Also, a lot of the texts that you’ll find new on the above list can be had very reasonably from the booksellers who sell through AbeBooks and/or Alibris - worth checking.

Couple of Melkite authors especially worth looking for when you’re sifting through the links above - as they have written books along the lines of what you’re seeking - Father Fred Saato and Deacon Ed Faulk (think he’s an occasional poster here), as well as Archbishop Joseph Raya, of blessed memory.

And, don’t undervalue Orthodox authors - especially Metropolitan Kallistos Ware.
