Greetings,

Can anyone please recommend any books that help one understand the development of the Papacy in the early Church, and are supportive of the Catholic position regarding the Petrine office? I am coming from an Orthodox perspective, and as I investigate this subject, I come upon little pieces of support from scripture and Church fathers, but it sure would be nice to have it all in one place, ideally presented in a convincing and cohesive manner (ie a good book).

Thanks in advance!

Great book and easy read is “Pope Fiction” by Patrick Madrid. Another book that covers a number of issues but would be a good reference is “Fathers know Best” by Jimmy Akin. That coves what early Church fathers taught about a number of things including the Papacy.

I ordered the Jimmy Akin book on Kindle. Between that and the Catechism, I think I should be busy for awhile. Thanks again. 🙂

I’m reading “Heroes - Popes in Hard Times” by Bob and Penny Lord. It tells the stories of several popes throughout history during particularly challenging periods. It’s pretty interesting…I’m only a little way into it, and have learned a lot so far.
