this thread has probably been made a million and one times but if anyone could recommend a good catholc book or two

I’d say depends on what interests you.

When it comes to Catholicism it’s like opening a treasure box.

some good books that I like are

“How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization” by historian Dr. Thomas E. Woods

“Orthodoxy” by G.K. Chesterton

“The Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything” by Fr. James Martin,SJ

Novels by Michael D. O’Brien, some of which are:

Father Elijah

Island of the World

The Father’s Tale

and there are several others. You can read reviews at Amazon.com

1.) The first and best Catholic book is the Holy Bible!
Other good ones are Imitation of Christ, the Holy Rule of St. Benedict, introduction to the devout life by St. Francis de Sales,. most books published by tanbooks.com/

Pax!

Any book by Fr. Paul O’Sullivan, such as Read me or rue it. They are TAN
books, small, inexpensive. Diary of St. Faustina. Story of a Soul. God The Father Speaks to His Children. Autobiography of St. Gemma Galgani. Biography of St. Gianna Molla.
I would like to read Pray, Hope, Don’t Worry by St. Padre Pio.

Lives of the Popes. Richard P. McBrien

Compassion: A Reflection on the Christian Life by Henri Nouwen, Donald P. Mcneill and Douglas A. Morrison (Dec 13, 2005)

I love this second book, it is SO Pope Francis!

It may not be a “Catholic book” in the sense of being a dissertation on Catholic principles,

but if you’re looking for a book that most kids will read gladly,
and gives a great Catholic example of a Catholic teenaged girl in present day America,
( how many books are like that? 🤷 )

see post # 120 in ‘my thread’ 👍 😃

This Jesuit author seems to be highly recommended, especially in the Detroit Metropolitan area, Michigan:

Father John A. Hardon, SJ (American, b. 1914- d. 2000)

His most famous work:

The Catholic Catechism: A Contemporary Catechism of the Teachings of the Catholic Church, Doubleday, 1975.
