Hi Everyone, I’ll be moving to the Forth Worth TX area next year after I marry my fiance and we were looking for some suggestions for churches to try out at the moment he lives in Austin but will be moving back to the Haltom City area before we marry, ideally we would like some where with a good community spirit as I am moving from Ireland and would like to be able to meet some people when I first move over before I get a job, his mother used to attend St Josephs in North Richland Hills so that is defiantly on the list but any other suggestions are welcome

St Mary of the Assumption (about 5 miles from Haltom City) is in a terribly sketchy part of town, but I really loved it. It was originally built by Irish immigrants in the early 1900’s, and has a lovely atmosphere. 🙂 I was there during Father Bristow’s time-- did he retire? pass away? sometime in the last month or two?–but I really enjoyed him. He was the sort of priest who would incense the altar even during Ordinary Time. Lots of strong, working-class families. I’d also check and see if the FSSP still does Tridentine Mass there on Sunday evenings, and you might try a nice High Mass with Gregorian Chant.

That being said, the FSSP definitely grew themselves a parish over in Irving, about half an hour from Haltom City. It’s called Mater Dei. Very nice to see them succeed; there are a lot of big, strong families there that are cool to see.

St. Andrew’s, over near TCU in Fort Worth, is about 20 minutes from Haltom City. When we were there, it was a comparatively affluent congregation, with dynamic priests, but the priests got switched out pretty frequently.

The FSSP has a parish in Fort Worth now, no need to go over to that other diocese east of here… 🙂 St. Benedict. We have been at St. Mary of the Assumption, as mentioned above (not sketchy these days, a “re-gentrified” neighborhood), but we’ll moving soon to our own building, which is currently St. Thomas on the north side of FW. The fine folks at St. Thomas are building a new church, so the existing St. Thomas will become St. Benedict. Hooray!!!

Also, I grew up in HC, for what it’s worth, happy to help with any questions about the area.

Congratulations! I’m happy for y’all! 🙂

Thank you! Exciting times in the Diocese!

To the OP,

St. Mary’s is a beautiful church. The neighborhood isn’t Irish anymore, bit I’m sure you’ll see the influences inside. 🙂

Also, if you’re looking for a new mass instead of the TLM I suggested, check out St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Keller. Incredibly active and vibrant parish with very reverent Masses. Highly recommend, and it’s just north of Haltom City.

There are also some parishes to avoid, but since that would violate the spirit if not the actual rules of this forum, I won’t post them here. Send me a message if you’d like that information.

All the best in your upcoming marriage! 🙂
