Hi All!

So I never really have been able to find that “one” examination of conscience that really works for me. I often find that most of them don’t differentiate between mortal and venial sin and I find myself bogged down by all that it lists. Not that I wouldn’t want to confess my venial sins but seeing that I go to a large parish for confession it usually is not possible. The only one I could find that differentiates between mortal and venial was this one.catholicparents.org/oxcart/Examination%20of%20Conscience.pdf I was wondering if I could get some opinions on this one and if anyone else has any others that are good that would be great!

There’s all kinds of examination of consciences, but determining a state of mortal sin is more for the individual; there is no magical examination that will always tell you.

It’s probably a good idea to talk to your confessor about this. There’s always opinions to varying degrees on here.

Hello.

I love this examination of conscience. It’s by Fr. Robert Altier and published by Leaflet Missal in booklet form. It’s so helpful. Only one I’ve seen so far that has a Nihil Obstat and an Imprimatur. But, just my opinion…

Right, I was just looking for one that defines the “Grave Matter” better, I understand the knowledge and free will part of the mortal sin.

No doubt, it is always good to communicate with your confessor on various points.

I wasn’t sure if it did but knowing now that it does have the imprimatur gives it some points for credibility.
