Would it be inappropriate to change my sheets on Good Friday? Vacuum my room?

Is this like a Sunday as far as unnecessary work goes?

“You gotta do what you gotta do”

I have to work today 😦 , but that doesn’t stop me from saying prayers throughout the day. I did go to mass last night as well as an adoration “tour” last night.

I hope not. Our entire family was sick from last Tuesday until yesterday…today is the first day we have feeling normal, and I have company coming on Saturday…so this is the day to get pascha bread made, start putting together our family easter basket, vacuum, clean bathrooms, and do laundry. I also do household chores that need to get done on Sunday.

“Unneccessary work”, in my mind, would be, say, cleaning out the garage or taking on a project that doesn’t absolutely need to be done. We need clean clothes, food, and a clean house…if i don’t sweep or wash the kitchen floor once a day we get ants.

Preparing the house for Easter is, in my mind, a neccessary work. 🙂

Kathrin,

Your scrupulosity is at work here.

No, there isn’t anything wrong with doing some household chores. The Church does not specify that we are to rest from servile work on this day. We should maintain a penitent/somber tone, abstain from meat and fast. But, we may work.

OK, thanks… I wasn’t sure anymore because of something I read in another post.

On Thursday Morning a good friend of mine from Church was convinced that Holy Thursday was a fast day. Poor dear, hungry for nothing…we ended up having lunch together.

Your friend probably enjoyed the lunch much more because of the hungry stomach.🙂

Fasting in honor of our Lord, even if done mistakenly, is never for nothing. May God bless your friend and her (his?) desire to be faithful to the teachings of the Church. I am sure this was not lost on our Lord.
