Is drinking orange juice all day ok or shall I fast and just eat one meal later on??
Grapes would also be considered food, but grape juice is a juice, just as orange juice. The only problem I have with this is if I get technical… Orange blended = orange juice… Orange is food… Therefore if I blend say food and it turned into a drink that’s ok? It says milkshake breaks the fast but not milk aswell… Confusing… Thanks for your reply though
Ouch! I’m diabetic and thus can’t do anything too extreme. Type II so I rarely get hypoglycemic but I find my sugar control (with oral medication) works much better if I eat regular meals at regular times. I can abstain from meat though, and cut back somewhat. I need to avoid becoming insulin-dependent as much as possible. So please don’t be too hard on yourself!Grapes would also be considered food, but grape juice is a juice, just as orange juice.
Technically, you are permitted two small portions of a meal that does not equal the quantity of your main meal at dinner.
Working laborers will need to consume a larger portion than others, in order to do their job without making them unfit to work. Common sense is the rule here. Yet a laborer can omit eating between meals and reduce the quantity of their customary food intake somewhat.
I have been fasting all through lent, and it has been difficult since I have hypoglycemia and low sugar levels play havoc with me. A couple of times, I had to break my fast to eat some small crackers to sustain my strength. Same thing with regard to medications. Before bedtime, I have to take meds that bother my stomach a lot unless I eat some crackers. Most of the time, I did not eat, and paid for it in losing sleep! Last night, I changed course and ate some crackers before bedtime. Motive and intentions are the key…for I did not eat for pleasure, but for necessity.
Since I am over 59 and do not need to fast, this has been my penitential offering to God.
Do you think that is wise?I have been fasting all through lent, and it has been difficult since I have hypoglycemia and low sugar levels play havoc with me. I think you are recognizing that juicing an orange and pureeing it produce two different things. A smoothie with a banana, orange, etc. and some ice cubes is the same as a milkshake: food. The only problem I have with this is if I get technical… Orange blended = orange juice… Orange is food… Therefore if I blend say food and it turned into a drink that’s ok? If you want to get technical, we can do that. The only problem I have with this is if I get technical… Orange blended = orange juice… Orange is food… Therefore if I blend say food and it turned into a drink that’s ok? It says milkshake breaks the fast but not milk as well… Confusing… Thanks for your reply though
Not really.Do you think that is wise?
I’m no priest so wouldn’t press the issue with you and this devotion, but just be careful. Not really.
I do watch to make sure I don’t get too ravenous with hunger, a good sign my blood sugar is low. I usually have to eat small portions more often during the day, so two tiny meals with no eating in-between was a bit difficult.
There is a very special intention with a severe family problem that made it all worthwhile. I don’t know if anything was accomplished in this matter, but I felt moved to try. Our Lord said, “this kind can only come out by prayer and *fasting.” *Since years of prayer have not caused a change in this person’s heart, I wanted to try it.
Thank you. Once lent is over, I doubt if I will do this again.I’m no priest so wouldn’t press the issue with you and this devotion, but just be careful.
I’ll betcha your lovely wife appreciates it immensely! You are a gem! God loves you, too!Instead I made doing the house cleaning my Friday penitential offering this Lent. It used to be my wife’s chore because she has Tuesdays off and I had a terrible commute (100 km each way), but now that I’m semi-retired I have more time so decided to do it on Fridays (and do a bit more of the cooking during the week as well). I plan to continue after Lent.
No, there was no intention to disregard the precept, so it is not a sin.Wife wanted to go for lunch out today and it is only now that i realise i had meat!!! I am gutted! It was not intentional so should i go to confession about it?
We came back from mass at 3pm and when i came into the house i suddenly realised i had eaten meat today!![]()
If it worries you, you can mention it to your confessor but as you didn’t choose meat on purpose it shouldn’t be considered as a sin.Wife wanted to go for lunch out today and it is only now that i realise i had meat!!! I am gutted! It was not intentional so should i go to confession about it?
