Could someone please clarify for me why there is no Mass on Good Friday?

Dianne

From the Catholic Encyclopedia:

“The omission of the Mass proper marks in the mind of the Church the deep sorrow with which she keeps the anniversary of the Sacrifice of Calvary.”

newadvent.org/cathen/06643a.htm

Since good friday is the day of Jesus’ death, out of respect we do not concecrate bread because it becomes his glorified body. The mass is a celebration, and good frday is teh most solemn of days.
