The “war on terror” has focused world concern on fanatical Islam, but a parallel religious trend in Asia is the growing popularity of Christianity, notably the fervor-prone Pentecostal and charismatic varieties. Asia is projected to become one of the largest Christian populations in the world. - Michael Vatikiotis

Interesting article!

The US-led “war on terror” has focused worldwide concern on the rise of Islamic fundamentalism as a precursor to violent militancy. Moderate or secular behavior among Asia’s Muslims is considered the long-term antidote to religious fervor. But in the wider context encompassing Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity, the trend in Asia is anything but moderate or secular. Across the region, charismatic sects are springing up and drawing young people to religious faith. And new Asian converts to Christianity are arguably outpacing the spread of Islam.

How about that!

I have been arguing for years about the rise of Christianity in Asia. Han or Confucian Asians are not interesting in Islam. The recent rise of fanatical Islam hasn’t helped much in Asia either. The lunacy over the cartoon definitely makes Asian people think twice about the religion.

Myth of the fastest growing religion has been debunked.

God be praised! Between this and the vital church growth we can see in Africa (in the very teeth of Islamicization, btw) we have much to rejoice over.

Pray for the Church Militant!

The expression “Church Miltant” is a translation of “Ecclesia Militans” and it has nothing to do with violence or “militancy”. It refers to believers here as they struggle against the world, the flesh and the devil as opposed to “Ecclesia Triumphans” (Church Triumphant), referring to believers who have gone to their reward.

Strangely this remind’s me of what the terrorist’s chant.

Not close at all, it has no connection with violence or Jihad. Church Militant = Church on Earth. Church Triumphant = Church in Heaven. Church Suffering = the souls in purgatory. It’s the Communion of Saints, nothing to do with violence or what the terrorists chant at all. 😉

Semper,

Thanks for whittling it down. My explanation, though substantially the same as yours, was polluted with extra language.

Good job…sorry, shadow that I wasn’t clearer, what Semper said is right.
