Looking to get a good missal that is not too complicated but is not elementary either. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Are you sure he/she wouldn’t prefer a little complicated? Back in the day, I used the St. Joseph missal starting in about 3rd grade. I was very particular about ribbon placement and very proud of my ability to get it right.Looking to get a good missal that is not too complicated but is not elementary either. Any suggestions?

It depends on the child’s reading skills. I would start with the red missalette already described, and then venture from there. The St. Andrew’s Missal is my favorite because of its attention to detail and extensive commentary, but it might be too much for a 10 year old. The Baronius Press Missal might work - It’s a step up from the red missalettes but less extensive than the St. Andrew’s. The Baronius Press Missal is also easier to read, especially the canon of the Mass.Looking to get a good missal that is not too complicated but is not elementary either. Any suggestions?
I agree and wish it would go back into publication in a 1962 edition. The old “St. Joseph” missal, published up into the early '60’s worked great for my kids.
Still have a couple of them around somewhere. About 5" x 7" if I recall. Has some picture of the Mass in it. You can find them on EBAY now & then.

It was very popular in its day but this missal removed a lot of Latin, especially for the propers. Probably to save space but it makes the Mass much more difficult to follow. It’s easy to hold in the hands, however, but then so is the Angelus Press one.I agree and wish it would go back into publication in a 1962 edition.
I have no experience with the Angelus Press missal, I know my Baronius Press missal can be a bit unwieldy for a youngster (or senior like me) on occasion. It was very popular in its day but this missal removed a lot of Latin, especially for the propers.
