I wanted to get opinions as to whether these terms are appropriate. They are such a part of American language that we often don’t take a step back and examine their potential implications. Would not, “May God’s blessings be upon you,” be more appropriate than, “Good luck.” Wouldn’t, “I need to thank God fro that blessing,” be more appopriate than, “I was lucky, there,” or “I had good luck?”

I never initiate luck phrases, but sometimes I retort with, “you, too.” I wonder, though, am I doing something wrong by saying that.

I realize this may sound like a petty issue, but it’s been on my mind.

Thanks for your replies.

I often wish others “good luck,” but by so doing, I am really wishing that they might get what they wish, as long as it is God’s will for their lives. “Good luck” is much quicker to say, after all. As far as my own life goes, I never say that I was “lucky” when things turn out in my favor; I always say that I was blessed. :twocents:

Yep, it’s partially a matter of who you’re talking to and the awkwardness of the phrasing, if it’s a quick reply.

I’d try to convert it over to God Bless, Thank God, etc. God luck is something we’re so used to, but to set an example that we don’t believe in luck I’d switch. Ask your Guardian Angel to remind you.🙂
