Alright, Good luck charms are a form of divination. But what about Good luck?

When someone is particularly fortunate one day, some may call that person “lucky”. If someone wins the lottery, that person would be considered “very lucky”. The word “lucky” is used almost everyday.

It’s not a form of divination and thus sinful to call someone lucky or wish someone good lucky? Is it?

Yes, this is probably a stupid question. 😊

No, not really. =/ And the answer to the question is no. Luck by definition is the quote “success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one’s own actions.” What would be sinful is believe in the superstitious version of “luck.” Like believing that a false god/goddess or a crystal ball or a tarot card you picked the other day will make you “lucky.”

Hope this helps. God bless,

David

well sometimes ill say or call someone lucky but i dont belive in luck cause God allows everything too happen for a reason not just by chance hope this helps explain some things

IF one were to really believe that some charm or item would bring them good luck or good fortune then with would be a sin of superstition and contrary to the first commandment.

However wishing some one good luck or good fortune is not. Good “Luck” or good fortune is simply something happening a bit better than the 'normal" laws of probability. Someone who is 'lucky" just happens to win (or apparently wins) more than he should or maybe more times than would be normally expected in a given situation.

I happen to be an avid gambler (dice), and as such I know that in the long run, certain numbers come up a certain number of times relative to other numbers. BUT in the short term, some numbers may appear much more often than they should.

IF I were to think that having or holding a rabbit’s foot or some other charm, would make my numbers show up more often, then I would be guilty of being superstitous. BUT if I were to bet a tough number like a 4 or 10, and it did consistently show up more than the 7 which it is not supposed to. Then someone might consider me very lucky (at least for that time when/if it happens).

SO I may wish the ‘shooter’ good luck or good fortune, in making 4’s or 10’s, but that does not impart any sort of superstition that he will do something out of the ordinary. Because every once in a while such things can and do happen, even though the probablities are against it. (BTW, if you consistently bet 4’s and 10’s against the seven, you will probably lose your shirt. In some rare situations-when someone is on a very hot roll, it can make you a lot of money fairly quickly).

When we think of luck as nothing more than being at the right place at the right time, as opposed to being at the wrong place at the wrong time, then there is nothing wrong with that. BUT when we attribute luck or good fortune to some object or something other than God or what is normal, then we are being superstitious.

When I say Good Luck to someone, I’m really saying I hope God smiles down on you. I hope you are in the right place at the right time and not in the wrong place at the wrong time. So good luck and don’t go buying any charms or rabbit’s foots…

When you wish upon a star, arent you looking at angels? That’s what my grandma always told me…:confused::confused:

I believe that a charm cannot bring any luck to a person !
Why should it be able to?
