Well, Jesus is the man of sorrows, and certainly not the least of His sorrows comes from the loneliness He must feel at losing or being separated from any one of His children.
It is interesting the establishment of the Eucharist itself can be a source of Christ’s sorrow. When He spoke to the his disciples and said “unless you eat of my flesh and drink my blood you have no life in you” and upon hearing that many of his disciples protested “this is a hard teaching” and walked away from Him .
I also think of the loneliness Christ feels when he asks us to spend time with him in adoration of the Eucharist. Its rather like spending time with an elderly bedridden relative who may be unable to speak. Sometimes just being with them and holding their hand may relieve their loneliness and ours.
If you are experiencing such a time, I also pray that your sadness and loneliness will be relieved by joining your sufferings with His when you spend time with our Lord.
