**GOOD MORNING! **

A peaceful, intensely quiet morning up here on the mountain, Dramatic skyscape and a sweet soft breeze…

Morning here starts around 4 am. So by six, have greeted God, talked with family in Canada fed and chatted with all my critters, and hung out the washing… Two lines of lovely clean things…the swallows are sky dancing , always a breathtaking sight that makes me laugh in joy…

Finally my own simple break-fast as the cats sleep. full and happy… all is well and all at peace and I can work now.

LOVE the early hours…Alone with Jesus. No human presence…

Wherever you are; blessed day to all out there… Peace of the ancient mountains to all; peace of the Risen Christ to you…

Thank you!
Ireland is so beautiful …enjoy and have a great day!

Praise God. What a beautiful experience perched high above the emerald isle. In communion with all the holy ones of the island of saints and scholars. What a rustle there must be in the trees as the sun rises. What a holy peace from the ocean coming in on all sides!

Ah the old holy ones fled long ago. but the trees are still here. Nothing is immortal save the love of God, and the ancient mountiains that will not be moved any more than that will … We mountain dwellers are very practical folk as were the old ones…

I love trees. As a lonely friendless child, the trees became my friends.

Your posts of life in Ireland always reminds me of Tolkien and the Shire.

Thanks for the wonderful visual of Ireland to start the day!~ I was in Ireland, as well as many places and I desire to return to my favorite, Ireland.

Enjoy the day.

I have been sure since I came to Ireland that Tolkien drew his inspiration for Lord of the Rings here… Some places you can totally visualise the story. There was one wild road in Donegal I never got to drive down that makes me shudder to

I am about 400 ft above sea level here and was out after hectic housework a while. watching the clouds drape over the mountains, and the misty horizon Pure Tolkien…

Anyone know if he did spend time here, please?

Thank you so much for this lovely post to start my day, what a gift. May God bless you with continued peace this day and those to come.

I believe that Prof Tolkien had taught at the National University in Galway during the 1940s and 50s. I understand that he also spent time going up the Burren and in the areas around Limerick and Lough Derg during this time. Not sure how that part of Ireland looks in relationship to various scenes from the Lord of the Rings.

I want to visit Ireland!

It’s one of the countries I’m so keen on seeing. Over here it’s just apartment buildings and apartment buildings and more buildings!!

Hopefully one day I’ll wake up to the same thing 🙂

Hi,
MY husband is off the boat Irish. The time to visit is the last Sunday in July.
The natives and people such as I, climb the Reek. The Reek is the mountain that Saint Patrick climbed and fasted for 40 days and nights. It is a spiritual journey. Some do it for penance and climb on their knees and bare feet. It is 2510ft high. It has three humps. You need good walking shoes and a walking stick. One starts at 0300hrs. Then, mass at 0600hrs. Then, the climb down through the morning clouds w the sun rising over the Atlantic. There are sheep and mountain goats. Three hours up and three hours down. There is a gorge on the right where folk lore has it that is where St Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. There never were snakes.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back
May the rain fall soft upon your fields
And may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Dei Linn=God bless in gaelic. Don’t trust me on the spelling.
in Christ’s love

It was cancelled this year… I am not one for these events…a true solitary here…daily life is a true pilgrimage…

Although there are place I go at first light alone and walk barefoot as a prayer in great need… Abbey Island is a favourite, walking along the ocean edged sand where they still carry coffins across on their shoulders…

So many of these old places…
Love the old blessings… made cards with them and real pressed shamrock on them…

Early heavy rain music here… An extra rinse for the washing I left out… Sweet clean air…

I know. Last year I had a lady from Singapore at my stall and we talked of all this. A hard place to be indeed. I choose the most isolated places I can find! Here no buildings in sight literally. Fields and sky and mountains and trees, views all around even from the bathroom… an untameable wilderness

Thank you, I am not saying there are actual scenes he used, but the whole atmosphere of the wild places…

The back road in Donegal I spoke of was pure Tolkien. Too much of a dirt track for me to risk in my tiny car and then when they paved it, there was no time, I regret that… I do not yet know Galway; hoping to love there early next year. But the wild places in Donegal. More so than here in Kerry

Oh… I was more meaning that I didn’t know how much Galway and Limerick are builtup. For all I know they are heavy industrial wastelands with more concrete than green Irish hills. 🙂

Every time you post I want to leave work for a month to visit Ireland. I live near stunningly beautiful scenery, but it is a hard rough type of beauty. I imagine Ireland to be a bit like the Shire or perhaps even Rivendell where as I live more among the passes of the Misty Mountains near Goblin Town or towering hills like Weathertop. 😃

There is a place that looks a lot like Rivendell and it is in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland.

Tolkien visited Switzerland and he might have gotten inspired by his trip.

I remember reading that Tolkien based the Misty Mountains on the Swiss Alps so I’m sure that Lauterbrunnen (or similar places) figured into the imagery.
