Well, the good news is, after being unemployed for over a year, I finally got a three month contract. That is good

However, I just finished my first week and I am stressed. I really want to perform well so that at the very least, I will have a good reference. Also after being let go unjustly, (long story) I am very nervous about performing well. Everyday before work I pray to God to give me the strength to do a good job.

Also, I want to fit in with everyone but it is always stressful being the new girl. For example, there is this one lady, whenever anyone asks her to do something, she always says ‘no’ in a joking manner and does it anyway. Well, I am nervous to ask her anything because I don’t know if she will be serious or not. Or, people will kid and make jokes at another’s expense. Well, one day I got in on it and then I felt nervous thinking ‘as the new girl they don’t know me so will they realize I am joking’

Every time my boss calls me over to give me work, my heart skips a beat petrified she is going to chastise me. Every time I do something, I am worry it was done wrong.

I so desperately want to hear ‘Angie you are doing a good job’. But I don’t DARE ask for approval because I don’t want to come across as needy (which will just annoy people at best) and deep down, I know myself and the compliment would make me feel good for the rest of the day and the next day I would want to hear it again.

Not to mention it was hard to go from doing nothing all day to working 8 hours. It is Saturday and I feel like a fish out of water with nothing to do I was so use to being too busy.

Well, I needed to get that out

Angie

Sounds totally normal. I’d watch the joking at first, you’re right that it can be seen as trying to fit in too fast. You don’t know the culture yet and who you can joke with. You have to walk a fine line between not being seen as a prig, yet not necessarily joking along with the others.

Congrats on the job! Hope it leads to a permanent position!

“Pray, Hope, and Dont Worry”

Just try to relax, its an anxiety we all have. Just do the best job you can, and be as kind as you can, and trust in God to take care of the rest.

🙂

Angie! Listen to me.

Angie! You are doing a good job. In fact, you are doing the BEST job. Don’t let anyone else fool you. You are strong, confident, and you CAN and WILL kick some serious tail.

Hooaah.

Angie, my heart goes out to you! Just focus on the basics, and being friendly with everyone, and try to be upbeat and positive as much as you can. Don’t be afraid - they wouldn’t have hired you if you weren’t qualified to do the work, so just do the best you can every day, be conscientious, and always look for ways to help others - you will be just fine. 🙂
