[T]he chaplain of the Holy Rosary Latin Mass Community in Dayton, Ohio announced at Mass today that His Excellency Archbishop Schnurr was arranging for Holy Family Church in Dayton to be given to the Latin Mass community. The rumor that Holy Family Church had been purchased by the Latin Mass community is not true; the church is to be given.
Currently, the Latin Mass community shares Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Dayton with the OLR parish. The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter staffs a chaplain who is responsible for ministering to the Latin Mass community. He has the faculties of a parish priest to those members registered in the community. The transfer to Holy Family is to occur this summer.
The pastor at Holy Family made the announcement during the masses last weekend at Holy Family. Holy Family is coupled with St. Mary’s Church, so I’d imagine St. Mary’s will takeover the masses that are currently celebrated at Holy Family. It seems once the Latin Mass community transfers to Holy Family it would then fit the definition of personal parish, but I may be wrong on that terminology. When I hear more specifics I’ll let you know.
