Not very Ecumenical of you Caesar… :tsktsk:
Oh, let me correct myself then-

This news is very good. After all, all religions are equal before God. Just because Islam and Paganism have teachings contrary to Catholicism, we should accept their beliefs as correct. Perhaps we can learn from them. Perhaps we can merge all these religions. Doesnt matter what Christ said, or if the teachings of His Church are infallible- we have to change things to be more accepting.

Better? 😉

Much better.

Now, if you will excuse me, I’m late for my Justice and Peace meeting…

Nope, not really Jon.

I prefer calling them as they are.

Heretics, heathans, and other things that would get me banned…😦

Heathens, an abundance of heathens 😉

A heretic is someone who perverts the faith- Luther, Calvin, ect.

Mohammedanism and Paganism are religions unto themselves. Therefore, they are heathens. 🙂
So I guess when I used to call my hubby a heathen (back when he was Presbyterian) I was correct!

God love his Catholic soul now!

It’s hard to get Wiccans to return to anything.
Once common sense is put into things, they lose it.

My Goddaughter/Niece is Wiccan because she believed that there must be more than one god. She found this out by listening to her friends and watching Xena, Warrior Princess. She turns 31 today.

I kid you not.
I’m not trying to be uncharitable towards your niece, but oh goodness. You’re cracking me up over here.

-.- boy oh boy oh boy, all of these people who want to bend supernatrual and all this other witchcrap is no more but abunch of cr*p, we dont . . .
There are people who do - I have a tale which I will regale you with.

Prior to my conversion, I dated a girl who said she was a Wiccan. She was a member of a coven and she had a little box with strange wands and candles and stuff in. She used to have little charms and rituals and so forth. Every so often, she would cast spells and such. She used to do tarrot readings etc.

Anyway, we broke up and a year or so later I converted. I have always had a liking for Saint Michael, and that turned into a strong devotion when I became Catholic. So, I said (and still say) the prayer every single day and wore the medals and so forth.

Months had passed since I had seen this girl, and then I had cause to visit her housemate. I went, knocked on the door, and it was answered by the girl I had come to see. “Come in,” she said, “XXXXX is giving a tarot reading upstairs.” I followed her upstairs. I walked into the room - my Wiccan friend had her back to me and the cards in a spread in front of her. She didn’t see me, no mirrors in the room, I didn’t say a word.

She sighed with resignation, shuffled the cards back into a pile, and greeted me by name. When someone asked how she knew it was me, and why she’s shuffled the cards back into a stack, she snapped back that the spell was broken because of something that came in with me, and that I was the only possible candidate for something like that (the only practicing Catholic in our circle of friends).

So, don’t tell me that there aren’t people who believe in spells and magic and witchcraft. I have met them - people other than her. I have met people who claim to have cursed people, and I have seen evidence that such enchantments work.

Now, if you want to say “Wicca isn’t like that” be my guest - but all you mean is that YOUR brand of Wicca isn’t like that. I’ve met plenty of people who said they were Wiccans and believed in it, and I’ve seen enough evidence to believe that the supernatural can be manipulated by practices they carry out.

Because we are dealing with spirits not people and the false spirit recognized the Holy Spirit of truth in you and had to flee at that moment through the power of the Holy Spirit you could have cast out all the evil spirits in the room in the name of Jesus.
If you can sense the doubt in the wiccan posters of there own beliefs or the their confusion pray immediately to St. Michael because God has the powere over these principalities in the air and that is WHY Jesus died to free us from the sin and the power of sin and you surprised them but with God’s prescence. Every knee shall bow Ian and all the rest every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord and no one will be able to be in the room and NOT confess that Jesus is LORD.

Do not be afraid of the power they have but the Christ that is within you is Lord of all

Well that is an interesting fact. What even is more interesting is how many have forgotten the days when most of Europe was still pagan. Their is one story when a Catholic priest and pagan priests (in Europe) had a show down with fire. If the pagan could walk through his fire and through tha Catholic priest’s fire then his gods were real. Now if he could not walk through the priest’s fire then the deal was that the Christian God is real. Well the pagan never made it through the Christian fire. It roared at him and blew him away after so many tries he gave up and converted. Now why and how is it that these modern day pagans forget these stories? Besides how do they get around the “no more animal sacrifice” thing? God speed.

Thats an old Irish story. I believe it was between St. Patrick and the Druid High Priest.

Great post, Dessert

(emphasis mine)

While I fully appreciate the sentiment, no, I couldn’t. I can’t cast a single thing out in the name of Jesus or anyone. If anything flees it is not because I walked in, it is because who walked in with me.

** Now why and how is it that these modern day pagans forget these stories? **

Speaking for myself and those Neopagans with whom I interact regularly both online and IRL(one caveat–I am not and have never been Wiccan), we see them as story and legend no different than the stories and legends of any other religion.

**Besides how do they get around the “no more animal sacrifice” thing? **

I will say that I have never met nor heard of any Wiccan performing an animal sacrifice. There may be Neopagans, either individually or as part of their religion, who still do practice animal sacrifice on occasion. I don’t know. There are other religions (Santeria is one that comes to mind) that does, though it is not considered Neopagan. There are numerous different Neopagan religions, as different from each other (and sometimes more so) as Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity.

Personally, that sort of offering belonged to another place and time and does not have the same relevance and meaning in our society. We do not do blood offerings of any sort.

To sacrifice literally means to “make holy” – to give of your best to the Gods as you would to honored guests. The Greeks, for instance, also offered offerings in the form of libations, food, jewelry, money, praise, incense, etc. which the stories tell us were well-recieved. Animal offerings in that context were more along the lines of a shared sacred meal at which the Gods were the guests of honor, but the people also participated. It was also one of the rare occasions upon which many people would have meat, as these were most usually situations of corporate offerings. Another issue is that different Gods may find different types of offerings pleasing.

It is also impractical in most modern settings. Ever try to keep a hecatomb of oxen in a suburban backyard 😃 ?

FOR CHRIST HAS NOT ENTERED THE HOLY PLACES MADE WITH HANDS, WHICH ARE COPIES OF THE TRUE, BUT INTO HEAVEN ITSELF, NOW TO APPEAR IN THE PRESCENCE OF GOD FOR US; NOT THAT HE SHOULD OFFER HIMSELF OFTEN, AS THE HIGH PRIEST ENTERS THE MOST HOLY PLACE EVERY YEAR WITH BLOOD OF ANOTHER. -
HE THEN WOULD HAVE TO SUFFER OFTEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD; BUT NOW, ONCE AT THE END OF THE AGES. HE HAS APPEARED TO PUT AWAY SIN BY THE SACRIFICE OF HIMSELF.
AND AS IT IS APPOINTED FOR MEN TO DIE ONCE, BUT AFTER THIS THE JUDGEMENT.
SO CHRIST WAS OFFERED ONCETO BEAR THE SINS OF MANY. TO THOSE WHO EAGERLY WAIT FOR HIM HE WILL APPEAR A SECOND TIME, APART FROM SIN, FOR SALVATION.
HEBREWS 9; 24-28 NKJ

Praise and thanks to the trinity Our God the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit.
There are no more sacrifices needed. dessert

okay…for one thing just cause a wiccan watches shows like zena, buffy, charmed, ect. doens’t mean there just idiots and go “ooooh that is so cool i should do that”

and i admit that i didn’t reply to kellie like i should have, i’m sorry i just got so caught up in everything else and i dont lose things once common sense is put into the situation.

I asked him earlier in the thread to guide me through that link, as it is hard to navigate, and he never replied, skipped my post, and went ahead answering others.
dear kellie, im sorry that i didn’t reply like i should of…and honestly i dont even remember it was hard for me to navigate through it too…sorry

Well, 135.000 people in the US claim themselves to be Wiccan. When one cannot even define exactly what it is to be Wiccan, that’s about the same amount of people who can claim to be a massage therapist with no more credentials than reading a book.

Someone read a book and now call themselves something. Okay.

I read a book on Microsoft Windows. However, I cannot claim that I am a Microsoft Certified Engineer.
I can say that I am a Microsoft Expert because there is no definition of that.

There is no definition of Wiccan except what someone wants it to be. A man writes a book and some lost individuals follow it. It’s a fad. This too shall pass.
…i’ve met alot of people who claim to be catholic, but when i ask them whats the diffrence between catholic and another type of christian faith, get a rainbow of answers? sound similar to your take on wicca hm? and i have never played D&D in my life…all i know is that its some kind of role playing board game.

First, did you ask if they were baptized Catholic? Most were and now are not practicing. Or had poor CCD. Most didn’t find it in a book.

Second, all “wiccans” that I know are more than willing to share all about being Wiccan. If you ask them the difference between being Wiccan and any other Pagan religion, they will tell you that there are no rules about it. And there aren’t.

There’s rules about being Catholic.

Bet you’ve spent some time on videogames, or roleplaying, reading Gothic novels. Do you have a job?
