Do you have a prayer especially for times of turmoil and worry ?A calming and reassuring prayer for that initial surge of worry and anxiety?
Just wondering so as to have some 'go to 'prayers for when it does happen 🙂

Thanks and God bless.

You can pray in your own words and it is okay coz God knows what you want before you even ask for it.

I have two that I pray often throughout the day, a short one and a longer one.

The short one comes from the Psalms, “O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.”

The longer one is the Act of Hope, “O my God, relying on your almighty power and infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, with the help of thy grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.”

I pray these two a lot, and also spontaneous prayers, depending on what’s causing me to worry.

The St. Faustina/ Divine Mercy prayers are ones I use a lot.
“Jesus, I trust in You”

“Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase your mercy in us, so that in difficult moments, we might not despair nor become despondent, but instead submit ourselves with great confidence to Your Holy Will, which is love and mercy itself.”

I was also reminded of “My Mother, My Confidence” by a thread on here the other day.

And of course, there’s my favorite old fallback, "Help me Jesus! "

John Lennon wrote an awesome prayer asking for God’s help without realizing it was a prayer, or maybe he did realize it on some level. I love John, he reminds me of myself.

Ps 107,Ps 103 ,Ps 139

O God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change the courage to change the things I can and the wisdomto know the difference.
Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time. Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace. Taking, as he did, the sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that he will make all things right if I surrender to His will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with Him forever.

Psalm 34 speaks of total trust in God’s care.

Psalm 35 cries out to God for help.

They’re long-ish, but I like that they give me time to reflect on God’s goodness in the midst of my concerns.

I pray the St. Teresa of Avila prayer:
Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.

Psalm 34 -

19; The LORD is close to the brokenhearted,

saves those whose spirit is crushed.

I absolutely love “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.”

The first time I ever heard of it was in a French prayerbook, where it read as “Ô Marie, conçue sans pĂ©chĂ©, priez pour nous qui avons recours Ă  vous,” which I find equally poetic, as it’s the original form.

The Memorare has never failed me.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence,
I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;
to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

This prayer was given to me by a family friend , who was a Cross and Passion nun , when I was going through a bad patch caring for my aging mother who had dementia .

I wrote to her saying how far away God seemed to be .

She sent me this prayer of St Ignatius of Loyola . She might have been influenced by having had two brothers who were Jesuit priests . 😄

God leapt out at me when I first read the prayer .

" Christ Jesus
When all is darkness
And we feel our weakness and helplessness,
Give us the sense of Your Presence,
Your Love and Your Strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
In Your protecting love
And strengthening power,
So that nothing may frighten or worry us,
For, living close to You,
We shall see Your Hand,
Your Purpose, Your Will through all things."

“Immaculate Queen of Peace, pray for us!”
“Immaculate Queen of Peace, pray for us!”
“Immaculate Queen of Peace, pray for us!”

And then the Hail Mary, and the Holy Rosary.

These are always the first prayers I turn to when I start to feel worried and anxious.
