I need some advice. My brother bought season 2 of Glee and there is an episode called grilled Cheeseus. Apparently someone on the show makes a grilled cheese sandwich, and it looks like Jesus’s face is on it. I am not sure if the whole episode of it is about that, but I would like to know if it is O.K. to watch shows that not nesecarliy make fun of the Lord, but just disresect him. In the past I have turned off shows like South Park and Family guy for these reasons. I just want to know if I am overreacting, or if I am doing the right thing.

Glee is a toxic show for many reasons. I would recommend staying clear of it altogether.

You should watch The Cosby Show instead. 👍

(If only there were more TV shows where we didn’t have to settle.)

I have found alot of what I’ve seen on Glee objectionable. I don’t watch the show regularly, but I do enjoy the musical performances. I think the show has alot of really bad messages and they’re aimed right at teens. I haven’t seen the episode you are describing, but I have seen other episodes that degrade religious views and values.

Claiming to see Jesus’ face in grilled cheese or potatoes or toast or pancakes or pistachio nuts or candy is silly. There is nothing wrong with laughing at that.

Jesus is probably laughing when people make these claims.

The football hero cooks a grilled cheese sandwich and finds a likeness to the face of Jesus in it. He preserves it and kneels to it before a game, etc… I didn’t find it that objectionable.

Many conservatives object to Glee, because two of the main characters are gay boyfriends, which is a fact of life in high schools today. Their relationship is not treated any differently than any other, and they are never implied to be sexually active. But they have an obviously strong emotional bond. If you find that objectionable, then Glee is not for you.

I think any Catholic should find that objectionable and not support such a show. Not just political conservatives.

Disclaimer: I’ve never seen Glee.

If 2 people have an attraction to each other but are not sexually active, what is objectional?

Well, Glee is obviously not for me then. On more than one count.

The world uses a deficient and erroneous philosophy that colors the truths of God’s Creation, a truth that can be known in and of itself and also that can lead to natural knowledge of God by elucidation of effects to their first cause. The basic presuppositions and principles that are in error, when accepted, leads that person to a view of the world in opposition to the Truth that is in God and of God.

The world cannot digest the Spirit of Truth. It hates Him and those who reject this worldly “truth” and it replaces real truth with a false one. Jesus becomes the good man who makes no demands on us and the Jesus who makes us “feel good” about ourselves and accepts all our sins, though to the world they are not really and truly “sins”, is that application of false philosophy toward theological beliefs.

The person who, knowingly or not, accepts this philosophy has a much easier time living in this fallen world. It is this world that opposes the suffering and obedience of the Cross and it is this world that is influencing us on TV, the Devils Tabernacle. We can see those who believe in God but fall to these erroneous philosophical principles in their acceptance of abortion and sexual sins, because their metaphysical views of man are incorrect. It is this basic philosophy that is at the heart of the majority of TV and other popular cultural happenings.

Is there any prohibition against a nonsexual relationship between two gay people?
Yes. Of course. It’s a near occasion of sin, it’s ignoring the facts about the kind of life those with SSA are called to, it’s tempting, it’s trying to get around Church teaching on homosexuality and it’s scandal.

Two homosexual men or women cannot be in a relationship, whether sexual or not. They cannot date, they cannot marry. They should be friends who support each others efforts to be chaste and follow Christ and His Church.

To be friends with someone is a type of relationship. So if they are chaste friends, not pursuing a sexual relationship, what is wrong with that?

St. Padre Pio called TV the ‘tabernacle of Satan’ . Kill your television.

Interesting. I am not following something, because you appear to contradict yourself, by my reading. Can you clarify how two people can be friends who support each other while not being in relationship?

^This is what I was referring to, and what I was speaking about. A relationship as in, dating.

Yes, clearly I was speaking about a dating relationship. I even implied in my 2nd post that nothing is wrong with two homosexual men being friends.

Never said such a thing. Clearly I was speaking about what was mentioned in this thread - i.e. two homosexuals dating but not being sexual (or at least, sexual aspects not mentioned on the show). I, again, clearly noted that a friendship is of course good and proper if they are supporting each other to follow Christ. A relationship usually - and in this thread actually does - means some form of dating. I wouldn’t say “I am in a relationship with Alex” if I mean to say he is my best friend. 99.999% of people would think I am talking about dating if I said such a thing.

Not sure why I had to clear that up, it was pretty clear.

Well, dating is a relationship with a sexual end goal, whether it is marriage or adultery. So yes, of course. It was not clear to me what you meant. This is an abbreviated form of communication.
