Hello,

Where might I go to find a nearly exhaustive resource of patron saints, including their domains and feast dates? I’m looking into prospective patrons for the Easter Vigil when I’m to be baptized and confirmed.

If no such exhaustive resource exists, allow me to mention some concerns of my life which may help the wonderful people of CAF suggest prospective saints:
  • I’m a biomedical researcher with a bachelor’s in molecular biology and a PhD in cellular neuroscience.
  • I’m a huge dog lover.
  • I was born, raised, and currently live in San Francisco, California.
  • I’m a musician. I play the piano, the acoustic guitar, the trumpet, and the violin. I’ll also be joining my parish’s schola cantorum to sing once I’m baptized.
  • I’m constantly struggling with incredulity and addiction.
Thanks! 🙂

I don’t know that many Saints myself as I’m going to be baptized this Easter Vigil as well. But from what you’ve said I can draw a connection to being a dog, and presumably general animal lover. There never was a bigger lover of animals than St. Francis of Assisi. You could always check him out.

Butler’s* Lives of the Saints*. This one is popular enough that your library may have it.

if you are interested in music, St. Cecilia and Pope St. Gregory are both patron saints of musicians.

Instead of looking for a Parton Saint to reflect on who or what you are right now, why not select a Patron Saint to guide you towards who you wish to be?

Another tradition, one that I took, is that you take your godfather’s or godmother’s or sponsor’s name (if they have Catholic names).

But … from your list, especially the middle three, I’d go with St Francis of Assisi – for he loved animals, is the patron of SF, and was a singer. Plus, the National Shrine of St Francis of Assisi is in SF. 😃
