Traditionally all afterlife outside the beatific vision is in a portion of Hell. Alternatively, at least, viewing purgatory as a separate place more fully, the lower portions are spoken of to contain the fires of Hell.

What I noticed is that he stated that they think of what they didn’t do for all eternity. The souls in Purgatory are not there for all eternity, just until the end of the world. I too have to wonder if this was a honest mistake on his part. A very good sermon otherwise.
We need more priest like this who are willing to talk about Hell.

Priests make slipups in sermons all the time, one way or another.What I noticed is that he stated that they think of what they didn’t do for all eternity. The souls in Purgatory are not there for all eternity, just until the end of the world. I too have to wonder if this was a honest mistake on his part. A very good sermon otherwise.

Souls in Purgatory aren’t condemned : They have the promise of going to Heaven … although I’ve also read accounts (private revelation) , similar to Shin’s, where, it seems in some of the lowermost regions of Purgatory the torments are not so different from Hell’s, with the difference that the souls have the promise of going to Heaven.
I think it was a simple typo in the sermon where Father meant to say souls in Hell but slipped and said Purgatory instead. Here is the transcript as best as i could render it in writing:

You may wish to re-examine the first part of this statement quoted below – it appears to be an error (maybe another honest mistake ? … I make them too – see my user name )
Each soul in Purgatory carries a personal sentence meted out to them by the Just Judge who loves each of them greatly. Purgatory is not based on one future date of release for all. It is based on expiation of personal sin through temporal punishment due to sin.
To say all souls receive the same time related sentence (ie. time deprived of the presence of God) , would be to imply that God is neither a Just Judge nor a Merciful Judge. It would further imply that indulgences were neither effective nor valid and that the prayers for the faithful departed in each Eucharistic Prayer were futile… which would mean that the Communion of Saints was not a Communion at all…
I believe Saint Padre Pio, on occasion, used to see souls from Purgatory about to be freed when he would celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Here are Jesus’ words to Saint Faustina, from her diary – Divine Mercy in My Soul. This meditation is used for Day 8 of the Novena to the Divine Mercy:
Eighth Day
*“Today bring to Me the Souls who are in the prison of Purgatory, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury of My Church and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice.” *

No, it was a mistake. Did you listen to it a second time? And he says the souls in purgatory think of “if only I’d done these right things I would not now be condemned to hell.”

This tale of a woman dying and then having her eyes fall out because she did not obey the “churches” law not God’s is an approach that the church unfortunately is infamous for. The same scare was applied to not eating fish on friday. God is wiser and much more compasionate than that. A personal relationship with God is the criteria, the church and their rules (as well meaning as they seem) is second.
I am a Roman catholic and will remain one until i die but i did not get my closeness my personal relationship with God until i was introduced to him without the filter of the church. This does not take from the church but it shows how the church need be based and directed to saving souls and promoting a personal relationship with our dear Mother, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God.
My mother also Catholic has that personal relationship at 87 years old and she expresses it by feeling so much at peace and in Love with God that she can just “squeeze” herself with Love. Then she says I really can’t explain the feeling. That is a personal relationship with our Lord.
Don’t eye ball dropping out or no fish this friday me to Hell. Please don’t my beloved church. Amen:nope::nope::nope:

A loving relationship, feelings of peace… is wonderful… but I get the feeling from your sentiments you’dve ate the fish… or the apple. And that wouldn’t… be good.
