I’d like to get my mom a Bible for her birthday but I’m not sure what to get her.
She prefers to read in Spanish but I don’t know anything about Spanish translations

I want to get her the “equivalent” to the RSVCE or NAB.

What’s the official Bible in Mexico or Spain? What do Spanish Catholic Apologists use?

I don’t want it overly dynamic like the GNT, I’d like it to be rather literal.

Could someone list a few popular ones and give me a brief description? I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks! 👍

// the good ones that i can think of right now are

la biblia de navarra - tapa dura (hardback)

la biblia de navarra - tapa flexible (flexible cover)
aquinasandmore.com/index.cfm/title/Biblia-de-Navarra/FuseAction/store.ItemDetails/SKU/61488/

la sagrada biblia traducida de la vulgata latina al castellano por el obispo félix torres amat - piel curada / tapa flexible (bonded leather)

sagrada biblia (nácar-colunga) - tapa dura (hardcover)

// pretty much la biblia de navarra would be the one you are looking for…it was translated at the universidad de navarra (university of navarre) in spain…

// i’m not sure what you mean…if you mean by lectionary, i don’t know for mexico and for spain…i cannot answer the second question because it can vary…

// oh if you did not know, the castillian version of the catechism of the catholic church uses la biblia de jerusalén…
I use La Biblia Latinoamericana, its printed in Spain. Its easy to read. Here’s a link:
lainmaculada.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LCLI&Product_Code=BIBLIALALG&Category_Code=B
// this translation is a dynamic/paraphrase…the footnotes and introductions contain marxism…
Here’s a link to some, I have the one that is in the 4th row down 74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:67VZyYpFTtIJ:www.bibles.com/Category/Bibles/ABS_NEW/OtherSpanishBibleTranslations.aspx%3Fsearch%3DOtherSpanishBibleTranslations_DiosHablaHoy+santa+biblia+united+Bible+society+dios+habbla+hoy&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

It is not a translation from an English version but it is a Spanish translation from the original langauges Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic.
// la biblia Dios habla hoy is a dynamic translation…from what i was told and read a long time ago, it is not a good translation…only thing they did was slap in the deuterocanonical books and, if i remember correctly on this, they only got an imprimatur for the new testament…

Thanks for your great replies! 🙂

For the first question, I mean I want it to be as literal as the RSV-CE or at least the NAB.
// your welcome…as i previously wrote, la biblia de navarra is the one you want… 😃
Second part- what do apologists use? What are some popular ones?
// from what i can remember , some would use la biblia latinoamericana and/or la biblia de jerusalén…

// the popular ones are la biblia latinoamericana , la biblia de jerusalén, and now la biblia de américa and la biblia de navarra…

The one that’s most popular in my Diocese (Orange County, CA) is the Latinoamericana though we read only the bible and not really the footnotes, although the references to other bible verses we do use.

Hi,

From my studies at the catholic seminary (In the Dominican Republic, a Spanish speaking country) I can tell you that the one they recommend is:

La biblia Jerusalem.

It is an excellent translation,

Regards,

The very best Spanish Bible is La Biblia de Jerusalen. There are La Biblia Puebla, La Biblia Latinoamerica, etc. But the very best is La Biblia de Jerusalen. This is the one used in theology courses. It used to have a Bluish hard cover.

Hi Omyo12! Spanish is my first language. When speaking of catholic translations of the Bible in Spanish, your choices are wider than in English. A comprehensive list of the ones used for apologetics in Spansh can be found at apologetica.org/biblia-versiones-espanol.htm

If you just want to give your mom a Bible just for devotional then La Biblia Latinoamericana is good and well known in all Latinamerica. For in depth study then La Biblia de Jerusalen, the “Nacar-Colunga” and “La Biblia de Navarra” and are your best choices. I personally use la Biblia Latinoamericana and La Biblia de Jerusalén.

I hope this helps.

God bless! 👍

I strongly agree with Duc_in_Altum. La Biblia Latinoamericana is much, much easier to read but La Jerusalen is more comprehensive (maps, historical perspectives, etc). I also have both.

I am a Brother in the Society of St. Paul. We have a very large selection of Spanish Bibles. I see some of the respondants recommend Biblia Latinoamericana. We have that in tampa dura, rustica and letera grande, normal and bosillo (hard Cover S/c, Large and regular print, pocket size). The Bosillo is not realy pocket size, but it is small not for folks like me that have trouble with small print. www.stpauls.us is our web site. I recomend on line ordering. You can phone toll free, but I must appologize, our marketing staff does not like to deal with Spanish orders by phone and will treat you very bad. (I wish someone would file a civil rights complaint against us - seriously, this is so embarassing for a Religious congregation to act like that). We have more that 1400 titles in Spanish, novenas, vida de Santos, lives of saints, devotions, bible study, much more, all ages.

I’m not sure of an equivalent translation for RSVCE, but there is one for the NAB is called Biblia De America. Here’s a link to that catholiccompany.com/catholic-books/1011757/Biblia-De-America-Verde/?category=894 There’s one another that might interest you. It’s one that is equivalent to the Douay-Rheims and it’s called Sagrada Biblia and it’s link is here catholiccompany.com/catholic-books/1111199/Sagrada-Biblia-Spanish-Bible/?category=894

I hope you find what you’re looking for.

God bless and keep the faith.
