Hi,
I just finished reading Abandonment to Divine Providence by Fr. de Caussade (sp?) and am looking for more good spiritual reading. I am starting to read St. Francis de Sales “Introduction to the Devout Life”. Can any of you recommend some other good spiritual reading?

Also terrific is Thomas Merton’s The Seven Story Mountain.

Depending on whether you tend toward the historical or the contemporary, I’ve never gone wrong with anything by Scott Hahn. His books on the sacraments were instrumental in my conversion 10 years ago, and I think I would get even more from them by re-reading them now.

“Introduction to the Devout Life” is excellent. I enjoy the fact that it can be read in bite-sized amounts. Each chapter can almost stand on its own. I also enjoyed another, shorter book by St. Francis de Sales called “Sign of the Cross.” Interesting perspective on this uniquely Catholic prayer which we so often do without contemplating its meaning.

Yes, yes and yes!

The “little way” is for everyone. ‘Storm of Glory’ is another great book that talks about the life and doctrine of St. Therese. I found it very moving.
 
I’d like to recommend two volumes. The first is John Cassian’s The Conferences, which is number 57 in a truly superlative collection of books titled the Ancient Christian Writers Series.

The second is the hardcover version of The Collected Works of St. John of the Cross.

I also highly recommend obtaining Brodart covers for both books, or else just taking them to a used bookstore and paying them a few dollars to put them on for you. Trust me, you’ll more than likely be poring over these books for the rest of your life, so you’ll definitely want hardy, well-protected copies.

I’m almost done that book and it is good. In fact, you’d think it was written in our current time by a contemporary writer.

Anyway, I love Thomas Keating’s works. Open Mind Open Heart is very good.

Also, Thomas Merton.

As some one else mentioned, Scott Hahn’s books are very good as well. My favorite is “the Lamb’s Supper.” This book will take you into the spiritual depth of the Holy Mass.

You may consider moving into reading the works of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila and Fr. Thomas Dubay’s Fire Within would be a good starter before you dive into the actual works.
 
The Ordinary Path to Holiness by R Thomas Richard, PHD
Intro by Fr. Benedict Groeschel CFR

Easy read and a “go to” book.
Answers so many basic questions about the spiritual life.
If someone said that I could only keep one book besides the Bible, I would choose this.
It provides the rock upon which to build a good spiritual life.

I have other books I also love very much. But this…gives me what I need the most…focus.
