I love that this thread has been started… interested in what other people have read and suggest too.
May be of some interest, two small (almost) pocket-size hard-bound books which where left behind by an old priest who used to live in my townhome:
- Practice of the Imitation of Jesus Christ, Rev. Cornelius J. Warren, C.SS.R, 1927
- My Changeless Friend, Francis P. Le Buffe, S.J., 1925
I like the first one especially, it is well but simply written as well as inspiring. There are probably reprints out there!
Others I like (which were left behind): 1) Little Lives of the Great Saints & 2) Butler’s Lives of the Saints. Also, you might be interested in a really good book on the history of the Catholic Church, hopefully others can give good examples they have read.
Something I’ve stumbled across information on, which I want to further explore but do not know much about yet:
The Didache (Teaching of the Twelve Apostles), believed/disputed to have originated in the first century. There are links on the below site to many author’s translations of these works, as well as further explanation:
earlychristianwritings.com/didache.html
Books I am planning to read after Easter:
Ascent of Mount Carmel, Dark Night of the Soul by St. John of the Cross
The Confessions by St. Augustine
The Imitation of Christ - Thomas á Kempis
The Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi -…
The Summa Theologica of St. Thomas Aquinas
The Way of Perfection by St. Teresa of Avila
Hopefully some of this has helped… I am nearing the end of my RCIA journey as well and I wish you nothing but a life
blessed with the richness & joy of the Catholic faith!
