I’m interested in being a Catholic but I’m not rushing into it. I feel I’m on the right path (have been pursuing since March). I have bought : New American Catholic Study Bible, New American Bible red letter edition, rosary, prayer books including prayers to Mary, book about Saints, and the Catholicism for Dummies.

Is there anything else that would be good for a start up kit?

Oh and I was thinking, is it good to have icons and perhaps a statue of Mary?

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there! Wow, you’ve got quite a start. I’d add the Catechism for sure–it’s just got such beautiful explanations of Church beliefs, and, depending on what appeals to you or your sticking points for discerning Catholicism, perhaps a book of the writings of the Early Church Fathers or a theology of the Eucharist.

Also, perhaps going to RCIA would be a good idea. You don’t have to commit to being confirmed as a Catholic, but meeting with other discerning people can be a wonderful resource and place of support, plus the explanations are usually pretty great.

I hope this helps! I did the same thing a few years ago; feel free to PM me with questions!

The Best Starter Kit in my opinion is Fr Robert Barron and his website Wordonfire.org. You can search by topic or keyword and find tons of information on the Catholic Faith. He has tremendous YouTube videos and his video series Catholicism is fantastic.

Second- Listen to Catholic Answers Live. The podcasts are available on this site under the radio tab.

For books I recommend:

Born Fundamentalist Born again Catholic by Currie
The Catechism of the Catholic Church
Catholicism and Fundamentalism by Karl Keating
Pope Francis’ books

Enjoy the journey!

You can read various articles on this forums. this is a very very good kit. feel free to ask questions.

A rosary and a scriptural rosary book. A book on the saints.

The movies: Jesus of Nazareth, song of Bernadette, our Lady of Fatima, and the two movies on John Paul II for starters.

A Youcat, a brown scapular, a bottle of holy water, a crucifix.
