I am currently reading and taking notes on Fr. Josef A. Jungmann’s comprehensive study of the history of the Western liturgies, The Mass of the Roman Rite: Its Origins and Development, and was wondering if since his time in the 1940s there have been comparable works published that update the scholarship.

In addition to these, I’d also be interested to know of any books that discuss to any degree Jungmann’s work with respect to liturgical history.

I have (but have not read) a book by Fr Josef Jungmann S.J.: “The Mass an historical, theological, and pastoral survey” translated by Julian Fernandes, S.J., edited by Mary Ellen Evans and published by Liturgical Press in 1976. The editor’s foreward begins: “This magisterial distillation of liturgical history and commentary on the postconcilar reform became a posthumous work on January 26, 1975, when Father Josef Jungmann died at Innsbruck as a very “young man” of some eighty-seven years.” Part One has the title “Historical Survey” and goes from page 5 to 94. The book’s ISBN is 0814608876.

Thank you very much. My university library has a copy.
