Clever, hilarious, enjoys the simple, not overly heavy but gets his point across effectively through the everyday. Keeps from sounding preachy or boring. Thoughtful and well produced programming.

Haven’t been able to hear his show since he left the Chicago market a few years back. But I was always impressed with his ability to pertinently respond to issues of the day articulately and with excellent guests. He always challenged his callers to not merely parrot talking points or bang heads with scripture verses, but to think things through in order to make an argument which might be persuasive to someone beyond your own “choir”.

“Dialogue not monologue” is his motto. And he practices what he preaches. He’s challenging in that he speaks what he believes, even if it is controversal to his own audience. But he also seeks to get people to listen and understand each other. He, therefore, seeks to engage rather than just talk at listeners. Probably the first host in that timeslot who has shown so much open respect (even though he thinks we are oughtright wrong on certain things) to Catholics, providing the opportunity for some to articulate our faith understanding and honestly offer and apologetic for ourselves. He even had Rosalind Moss as a guest for an extended period of time on one show. Genuine, sincere, good listener (a quality not always found in interviewers and hosts, sadly),and a fun, nice guy who allows his lighter side to come out on air.
I find that the Moody station in Chicago often runs good, professional shows, also. Their morning show is put together well, especially, and their news department will cover things of importance (and from a viewpoint) which you won’t get elsewhere:

And, alright, I’ll admit that my guilty pleasure is listening to low production, live Church services and caller oriented shows on brokered stations. That stuff is just fun. Sometimes so simple (even bad), or just offbeat as to be good listening. Speaking of which, it’s time for “Ukrainian Wave!”
